This , we’re headed back to 1939 with this picture of Margaret Jackson, who was Captain of the Girl Guides. You may remember her from our previous picture of the PoCo BC Telephone office, where she was the supervisor in the 1940s.

What does a dish mean when it carries a lifetime of memories?

The Memory Rasa Project invites seniors in our community to share the food stories that shaped their lives: the recipes passed down through families, the flavours of home, and the memories that come rushing back with a single taste. In this video diary, three seniors sit down for heartfelt conversations about their heirloom recipes, their favourite food memories, and what it means to leave a legacy through a dish.

In this video, you'll hear about:

The heirloom recipe each participant chose and why it matters to them.
A favourite memory tied to that dish.
Food nostalgia and the way flavour and scent carry us back in time
What it means to pass a legacy on through a recipe.

About the project
The Memory Rasa Project began as a booklet of food memories and has grown into a video diary celebrating seniors' stories of food, family and belonging. Rasa is a Sanskrit word often translated as "essence" or "flavour". It also refers to the emotional flavour of an experience in Indian aesthetic traditions, which makes it a fitting name for stories where taste and feeling are so closely tied.
