We only have 2 fantastic carvings by Vernon “ Ducky” Schnare , Cape Sable Island, NS. Left in stock! “Ducky” got his nickname at a young age by his sister because he was always fascinated by the ducks around the pond. He became a carpenter and then an Industrial Arts Teacher at the Barrington Municipal High School where he taught for 24 years. Ducky has been carving for over 50 years, making his first pair of decoys at 21. He carves decoys, birds and fish like halibut, tuna and whales from pine and cedar using a drawing knife, utility knife and spokeshave. He also uses wood burning in his creations.  
Ducky has a huge collection of decoys done by many different carvers that he has collected over the years. He knows many of the well know carvers both past and present and enjoys sharing stories about the pieces he has collected or carved.

We have this fun pair of vintage folk art fish pictures by RLT. Likely from the 50’s?? Great day to visit Hubert and Belle’s, Ellis House Patio, Port Maitland Beach, Hook and Sea, Edna’s Bakery, Bill Curry Photography and Yaciuk’s Collectibles and go home with some live lobster from J and T Ford! Heads up we will be closed all day Wednesday and Thursday morning this week only.

Just arrived, Sailing Fun “ Dad” by E. Joyce McComiskey, formerly of Charlesville, NS. Joyce was one of the founding members of the Nova Scotia Folk Art Festival. She started with relief carving but switched to painting. Most of her pictures were about the fishing community where she lived in Charlesville, NS. She presently resides in a nursing home nearby. Acrylic on framed board, 10x10”

A rare fine, Tall man by Bradford Naugler, famous NS folk artist. This fellow is 10x13x 58” H. Found with a crack down his back which Bradford has repaired and repainted. He thinks this piece could be about 25 years old. He isn’t sure who he represents. One arm still has a very slight crack, typical of wood carvings.
