Melanie Monique Rose has been working alongside her daughter for years while documenting their time spent gathering herbs, planting seeds, working with plants within nature, and sharing moments of foundational learning and reflection. Rose’s work is rooted in her Ukrainian and Métis culture, with an emphasis on flowers, plants, and traditional plant wisdom. These influences inform her extensive practice with floral design, that takes the form of felted wool or plant-dyed fabric that is crafted into wearable pieces.

As part of our exhibition “Connective Tissue” we exhibited several of her works including (from left to right):

“Ditch Witch”, giclee photograph, 2020
“Nutr Piyii - Motherland”, Multi-media installation: eco-developed 16mm short film, eco-printed silk cloth, soil, shovel (Film was created with the support of Cat Haines, who together make-up Cattail Collective), 2025
“Tiny Bundles of Love”, giclee photograph, 2025
“Tiny Bundles of Love”, Keffiyeh cloth wrapped in sage, string, 2025

Come visit the gallery in Central Library anytime to experience “Connective Tissue” curated by Wendy Peart — on until September 5!

"I consider my beadwork to be both traditional and contemporary. I bead traditional Amsakapi Pikunni (Blackfeet) geometric and floral designs to enhance my primary images, which are photorealistic portraits of Blackfeet people. I love to tell the story of my people and to speak of the beauty we emitted to the world through my art."

Only one more week to see Jackie Larson Bread's "The Beauty That Surrounds Us" in Dunlop Art Gallery (Central Library) as part of Kssááhkom Áássksinima’tstohki: The Land is Our Teacher. On now until June 17.

Jackie Larson Bread, an enrolled member of the Blackfeet Nation, was born and raised on the Blackfeet Reservation, located in Browning, Montana. It was here that her love of Blackfeet culture and the technical skill of beadwork became her focus. In 1983, Jackie was at the forefront of developing 'illusionary pictorial beadwork' which is achieved by using graduated shades of beads.
