🕶️ Did you know the Owens has EnChroma colour-enhancing glasses available to borrow?

These glasses allow visitors with red-green colour blindness the ability to see a broader spectrum of colours.

We have one pair for children (ages 10+), one pair for adults, and one fit-over pair for adult glasses wearers.

Ask to borrow them from the friendly Welcome Desk staff.

💸 Making a Living? The New Brunswick Artist Activity and Income Survey is now open!

Were you working as an Artist in New Brunswick in 2025?
Share your experiences and help shape the arts in New Brunswick.

The Government of New Brunswick has been working with Mawi'Art: Wabanaki Artist Collective, l'Association acadienne des artistes professionnel.le.s du Nouveau-Brunswick, ArtsLink NB, artsnb, Kelly Hill of Hill Strategies, and Ference & Company to conduct a province-wide survey on artists' income and working patterns.

The survey is part of ongoing Status of the Artist work and will help build a better understanding of artists' livelihoods.

Your responses will inform policies and programs, while ensuring future decision-making reflects the needs and experiences of New Brunswick artists.

Survey closes September 16th, 2026.

🔎 What does it mean when an artwork is printed by someone the artist has never met?

Our summer intern Chloé MacKinnon asked herself this question, and many more in relation to four prints by Rembrandt van Rijn (1606 – 1669) in the Owens Collection.

The four prints are on nineteenth-century paper, meaning they were printed nearly two hundred years after the artist’s death. These types of prints are called restrikes.

What began as a simple curiosity about a few prints soon became an investigation into collectors, printmakers, and the complex history that surrounds these artworks.

Chloé began to wonder if Rembrandt did not print these, who did? Could she find out? Which lead to more questions like; why are there strange numbers and letters at the bottom of each print? Why are the titles printed in French rather than in Dutch? Why does his etching labeled "Jacob Cats" bear little resemblance to the seventeenth-century Dutch poet and statesman?

Starting today, Thursday, 27 August 2026, part of our entrance ramp is being repaired, and will be unavailable for use until Wednesday, 2 September.

Because our other entrances require stairs, we will have no accessible entrance available during this time. We sincerely apologize for this.

The stairs to the Owens from the entrance nearest the University Chapel, and the York Street side entrance stairs are still available for use.

🙌 WE ARE HIRING for three(!!!) student employment opportunities at the Owens.

From gaining hands-on experience as an Education Assistant, to welcoming visitors at the Information Desk, and working with our ever-growing Zine Library, find the role that matches your interests.

Education Assistants help facilitate hands-on artmaking workshops for children 12 and under and their adults at the Owens' family program, Make Something Sunday.

Information Desk Student Assistants are the first point of contact for all visitors to the Owens and represent the Gallery with warmth, enthusiasm, and genuine interest in connecting people with art.

The Teeny Tiny Zine Library Assistant will help with research, outreach initiatives, and care of the Owens’ Zine Library of nearly 900 zines.

Applications are due 8 September 2026

Colville House is open by appointment each summer. Inside, you can explore the life and work of artist Alex Colville, including a recreation of the artist’s studio, complete with his studio supplies.

Colville House was home to Alex, his wife Rhoda, their four children, and a procession of pets from 1949 to 1973.
