This week was filled with learning, community engagement, and meaningful interactions at NBBHS!

From engaging with Francophone members of Education and Early Childhood Development through a presentation and discussion, to welcoming students from Rothesay Netherwood School for guided bus tour to sites of Black historical significance and a tour of the Heritage Centre, NBBHS had the opportunity to connect with diverse groups through the sharing of Black history and heritage in New Brunswick.

We are always encouraged to see students, educators, and community members engaging with these important histories and ongoing conversations.

Thank you to everyone who continue to support our work in education, heritage preservation, and community engagement.

This week at NBBHS, we had the pleasure of participating in the ASD-S Heritage Fair, with a rich display of student project exhibitions, community exhibits, and an Awards Ceremony, including the presentation of the New Brunswick Black Heritage Award. Such impressive displays of history and ingenuity in storytelling by many young historians whose curiosity, research, and passion affirm that the future of learning and historical preservation is in good hands.

We also had the pleasure of welcoming YMCA newcomer clients, as well as a group visit from the Envision Saint John team, to the NBBHS Heritage Centre, where we shared stories of Black history in New Brunswick and explored the importance of heritage, community, and belonging.

Thank you to all participants for the interest and engagement!

Last week at NBBHS:

One of the highlights was Rothesay Elementary School Multicultural Night—an evening that brought together an incredible array of community members from diverse cultures in a beautiful celebration of diversity.

We also had the honour of welcoming His Worship Kassim Doumbia, the first Black mayor in New Brunswick’s history, to the Heritage Centre, where he toured our exhibits and engaged in meaningful conversations on the importance of preserving and sharing Black history in the province.

We wrapped up the week by joining “The Tiger” to attend the Golden Gloves Club boxing event, featuring over 15 high-level amateur bouts. Ralph “Tiger” Thomas received an award as the founder of the club and for providing the foundation that continues to shape the club and our community.
Thank you for the honor!

NBBHS is grateful for another meaningful week of community engagement 💚💛.

This week at NBBHS, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from Simonds High School and Dalhousie University to the NBBHS Heritage Centre. Through an engaging guided tour, students explored stories and exhibits that highlight the rich history and enduring contributions of Black communities in New Brunswick.

We were also delighted to host cruise ship guests whose itinerary was unexpectedly redirected due to weather in Bermuda. Their visit became a meaningful experience as they discovered powerful stories of resilience, heritage, and the lasting impact of Black New Brunswickers.

Thank you to all the participants for the interest and engagement 🖤❤️💛💚
