The Ukrainian Museum of Canada of the Ukrainian Women's Association of Canada was founded in 1936 in Saskatoon. It was Canada's first Ukrainian museum and served as a center dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and the preservation of Ukrainian heritage in Canada. From its humble beginnings and with much community support the museum has developed into one of Canada's major Ukrainian Collections.

What are some of the treasures in our collection?

We asked Dr. Nadya Foty-Oneschuk, Director of the Prairie Centre for the Study of Ukrainian Heritage—and a visitor to the Museum since she was a little girl—to share what stands out to her.

Her answer? William Kurelek’s Ukrainian Pioneer Women series.

One of the gems of the Ukrainian Museum of Canada’s collection, all 12 paintings are currently on view together in Saskatoon.

Come see them in person—and discover more of the collection for yourself.

On view until October 3.

We’re honoured to share that the Ukrainian Museum of Canada has been nominated for the ŽIVA Award 2026 in the category Excellence in Preserving Slavic Heritage Worldwide! 🇺🇦🇨🇦

This international award recognizes organizations working beyond their countries of origin to preserve, share, and carry cultural heritage forward in new contexts.

For 90 years, the Ukrainian Museum of Canada has worked to preserve and share the stories, art, traditions, and experiences of Ukrainians in Canada. We’re incredibly proud to see that work recognized alongside cultural organizations from around the world.

The ŽIVA Award ceremony will take place this fall in Bled, Slovenia.

Thank you to the Forum of Slavic Cultures, and congratulations to all of this year’s nominees! 💙💛

Last chance to see Folk Imaginaries!

Don’t miss your final opportunity to experience Folk Imaginaries: Ukrainian Clothing as Memory and Imagination before it closes on August 28, 2026!

The exhibition explores Ukrainian clothing as more than dress—it carries stories of identity, memory, migration, resilience, and creativity, bringing historic garments and textiles together with contemporary fashion inspired by Ukrainian traditions.

We’re also proud to share that Folk Imaginaries received a Silver Award of Excellence from Interpretation Canada, the national association representing professionals and organizations working in interpretation, heritage education, museums, parks, zoos, aquariums, science centres, and cultural organizations across Canada. 🏆

Come experience this award-winning exhibition before it’s gone!

This past Saturday, we were honoured to welcome members and friends of the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada (UWAC) to the Museum as part of the organization’s 100th anniversary celebrations.

For a century, UWAC members have worked to preserve Ukrainian culture, strengthen communities, and support the Ukrainian Museum of Canada—a relationship that reaches back to the Museum’s very beginnings.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special milestone and helped celebrate 100 years of community, culture, and connection.
