In 1906 Selkirk approved the construction of a municipal waterworks system, providing residents with pressurized, filtered water. As the town grew, the original tower was replaced in 1961 with a larger, modern “Watersphere” design, which continues to serve as a key piece of Selkirk’s infrastructure.

In 1968, Electro-Knit Fabrics (Canada) Limited began construction of a textile plant in Selkirk's newly developed industrial park. The plant was the first of its kind in Western Canada. Operating for over a decade, the company brought jobs, training, and a new industry to the Manitoba Interlake region before closing its doors in 1979.
