About the artist:

Chason Adjoa Nana Yeboah-Brown (she/her b. 1991, Toronto) is a self-taught textile sculptor, doll maker and story-teller, exploring the oscillation of ancestral  ritual through  reconstructed, (un)woven and crocheted structures. Many of her works directly focus on themes ancestral veneration, identity, sexuality, the notion and practice of “self-love”, hybridity, energy transference, and acknowledgement of the human form, with a primary focus on marginalized humans. Her desire is to traverse the interconnectivity  of these themes, and from those travels - be it through her inclusive dolls, personification soft sculptures or “safe space” creations, provoke  more conversation and thought on communal awareness.

Our Story

What is Glory Hole Gallery?

Glory Hole Gallery is Toronto's first, and only, 2SLGBTQ+ miniature gallery. Just as the name suggests Glory Hole Gallery is modelled after the sexual slang term “glory hole.” A glory hole is a hole, sometimes found in bathroom stalls, utilized for sexual exchange. This gallery space is designed in a similar manner, however, with a much different purpose.

Glory Hole Gallery was originally conceived in 2017 from the creative minds of curator Emily Peltier and artist Sean MacPherson. Through the constructive ingenuity of artist Max Lupo, Glory Hole Gallery came to life and consists of eight 12x12x 8x1/2 inch boxes. Art can be viewed through the eye hole at the front of the boxes with LED lighting illuminating the works at the push of a button.

Today, Glory Hole Gallery is operated and programmed through a collective of phenomenal Toronto based artists Karina Iskandarsjah, Fallon Simard, Eric Chengyang, and the co-founder, Emily Peltier. Glory Hole Gallery is generously supported by a number of organizations and local Toronto businesses including the Toronto Arts Council, Community One Foundation, Oasis Aqualounge, Pleasure Dome, and The 519 Community Centre.
