The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery is looking for a skilled and experienced Installation Technician to join our team. If you’re passionate about contemporary art and comfortable with the technical aspects of installing multidisciplinary exhibitions and audio-visual equipment, we’d love to hear from you.

This role will support all stages of exhibition production—from construction and installation to deinstallation—and take the lead on audio-visual installation tasks. Strong communication skills and hands-on problem-solving are key.

🪩 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐢 𝐓𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐠 ✨

In conjunction with Power Ball: The 7-Year Itch, Toronto-based ceramic and mixed-media artist Sami Tsang will present a work for the evening, alongside Rah Eleh and Ella Gonzales, with creative direction by our Artistic Director, Adelina Vlas.

Hear from Sami about what she’ll be presenting at Power Ball:

Q: How did this year's theme inspire your creative process?
This year’s theme made me think about the quieter things we inherit across generations: resilience, memory, ways of caring, and ways of seeing ourselves. Inspired by childhood shadow puppetry, I’m creating an ink mural inhabited by 70 tiny porcelain girls, some carrying silver butterfly wings as a kind of armour. The clay holds the body, while the silver protects the spirit.

Q: If you could tease your project with just one word, what would it be?
承 (sing4): to receive, carry, [question], and continue

Q: What excites you most about presenting your work at Power Ball?
I’m excited to transform the Front of House into a place of slow discovery. From afar, the mural reads as one landscape, but as viewers move closer they’ll begin finding 70 tiny porcelain girls, each carrying their own spirited presences. I hope the work invites people to pause, wander, and perhaps leave thinking about the quieter things we carry with us.

Q: How did this year's theme inspire your creative process?
The 7-Year Itch made me think of cycles, thresholds, and spaces of transition where one condition slips into another. It inspired me to consider the work as a site for familiar forms to bend and settle into new proportions, complicating where one space ends and another begins.

Q: If you could tease your project with just one word, what would it be?
Pleat

Q: What excites you most about presenting your work at Power Ball?
I'm interested in the work as a marker of time. There's something exciting about making a site-responsive work that can hold different moments at once, while pointing toward something still unfolding. I'm also curious about the different ways the work might be encountered.

Join us for a floristry workshop for kids! 💐

Led by members of the Waard Ward collective, this hands-on workshop—presented in partnership with Destiny’s Child Care, a project by Collective Collective—invites children ages 5+ to explore flower arranging through the philosophies and approaches of Ikebana, a traditional Japanese floral arrangement practice.

Making waves, together 🌊🖍️

Berlin-based artist Robin Rhode has long used drawing to transform walls into playful, imaginary worlds. In Paries Pictus – Draw the Waves (2015), a flotilla of sailing ships is silk-screened across the gallery walls. In a special performance this summer, the artist invited children to draw waves under the ships using a set of over-sized oil crayons.

Heavy to hold, the group had to work hard together to create the drawing. Together, they defied gravity and overcame challenges to leave their mark on the gallery walls!

💙 Thank you to the artist and to all the children who took part and brought their creativity, imagination, and teamwork to the work through play.

Q: How did this year's theme inspire your creative process?
I was moved to create a multisensory experience reflecting on the past seven years, a period marked by fractured relations, invasive musings and silent erosions. These elements shaped my aesthetic, highlighting the contrast between temptation, growth, and decay. The piece teases our imagination to consider how these alluring but destructive forces might shape our collective future.

Q: If you could tease your project with just one word, what would it be?

I am delighted to partner with The Power Plant on this occasion.
