Happy International Children’s Day! 🧒🌈

First proclaimed in Geneva in 1925 during the World Conference on Child Welfare, this day recognizes the rights, well-being, and voices of children around the world.

Our current exhibition, 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘴, takes a cue from this seminal movement to recognize and uphold the rights of children—the future builders and changemakers of tomorrow. Shifting traditional exhibition structures, it actively engages children and young people, putting their interests and needs front and center through movement, exploration, creativity, and play.

🪂 Bring your little ones to discover 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘴 on Wednesday and Thursday from 11 AM–6 PM, Friday from 11 AM–8 PM, and weekends from 11 AM–6 PM.

After a seven-year hiatus, Power Ball returns on September 17.

This year’s theme, The 7-Year Itch, embraces the thrill of what comes next. It marks a moment of reinvention, celebrating curiosity and creative energy. Guests will move through participatory interventions, performances, and unexpected encounters that ignite the gallery for one night only, featuring major artist projects by Rah Eleh, Ella Gonzales, and Sami Tsang.

This long-awaited comeback revives the gallery’s most iconic fundraiser as it has always been at heart: an unforgettable art party.

Join us for a talk by artist Pablo Helguera, Building Strange Oases: Practices of Play, exploring how play can function as a critical artistic strategy that invites participation, experimentation, and reflection within social space. Rooted in socially engaged practice, Helguera’s work resonates with 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘴, the concurrent exhibition at The Power Plant, where the gallery becomes an interactive environment shaped by its visitors.

Pablo Helguera is a New York–based artist, cultural educator, and writer working across installation, performance, and socially engaged practices. His work has been presented internationally at venues including MoMA PS1, Museo Reina Sofía, and the Havana Biennial. He has also held educational and public programming roles at both MoMA and the Guggenheim Museum, and is currently a Professor at The New School College of Performing Arts in New York.

Among the coverage, Rosie Prata of CBC Arts reflects on the experience of visiting galleries with young children:

“Can art and children coexist? It’s a question every art-loving parent has asked when visiting a gallery with their under-five. After all, ‘Do Not Touch’ signs mean zilch to people who can’t read. While viewing art with your child can certainly induce anxiety, it can also be a deeply profound experience. … The benefits of art-based play are difficult to quantify, and therefore easy to sideline. ‘What we miss, then, are those key skills that come from the arts and humanities,’ says Offeh, listing empathy, emotional understanding, community-building, agency, and visual literacy.”

The Power Plant is open all long weekend. Come down to the waterfront and experience the artworks in 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘴 — from climbing and moving through the sculptures, to experimenting with natural materials in a hands-on environment, to erasing a large-scale graphite mural, and more!
