We’re delighted to share that, following an enthusiastic response from our visitors, 'Jamie Gentry: Blossoming' has been extended 🌸

Now on view through August 10, 2026, this solo exhibition curated by Aliya Boubard celebrates the work of Kwakwaka’wakw artist Jamie Gentry. Featuring a remarkable series of fully handmade moccasins adorned with intricate, lifelike floral beadwork, the exhibition reflects a deep connection to the natural world and a practice grounded in care, precision, and intention.

'Blossoming' marks a meaningful moment in the artist’s journey. After years of creating custom pieces for others, these works are made for herself, expressing personal growth, joy, and creative freedom. A selection of photographs also offers insight into her broader practice and the paths these works take beyond the studio.

We invite you to experience this thoughtful and intimate exhibition, now extended for a limited time.

Carmen, our Assistant Curator, and Jessica from Visitor Services liked the Sacred Salmon T-shirt so much that they each picked one up and gave it a proper photo moment. 😌👕

Then Carmen shared the photo with our very handsome and wonderful marketing guy, who is definitely NOT the person posting this, and we thought it was too good not to share.

Designed by Paul Windsor (Haisla, Heiltsuk), this new tee is now available in the Gallery Shop.

We’re open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. Come by and check out what’s new! 🛍️🙌

We were so impressed to receive these photos from St. Andrews, NB, this week. 👀

Grade 11 student Henry Campbell created this incredible LEGO interpretation of Bill Reid’s 'Skaagi' using more than 15,000 LEGO pieces as part of the annual CLASS (Children Learning Art at Sunbury Shores) exhibition at Sunbury Shores Arts & Nature Centre.

Beyond the scale and detail of the work itself, we really appreciated the care Henry took in reaching out for permission before starting the project. It’s a thoughtful and ambitious piece, and we’re honoured to see Bill Reid’s work inspiring young artists in such creative ways.

Henry hopes to one day work for LEGO in Denmark and is currently learning Danish alongside creating his own original builds. 👏

Thank you to Sunbury Shores for sharing this with us, and congratulations to Henry on an amazing accomplishment.

Hey LEGO, take a look at this 😉

On Mother’s Day, we reflect on Sophie Gladstone, the mother of Bill Reid, seen here as a young woman in Skidegate around 1920.

Born in Skidegate Mission in Haida Gwaii, Sophie’s roots also trace back to Tanu village on Tanu Island in the southern part of the archipelago. At just 10 years old, she was sent to the Coqualeetza Residential School, where she was forbidden to speak her Haida language.

Like many who endured the residential school system, Sophie navigated immense pressure to set aside her culture as a means of protecting herself and her family. This experience shaped her identity in complex ways, and she carried the impacts of that system throughout her life.

Sophie maintained a relationship with her son and his family until the end of her life, reminding us that stories of family, identity, and resilience are often layered and deeply human.
