STRONGER VOICE FOR NORTH SHORE ARTS & CULTURE

What does our arts and culture sector need to thrive?

The West Vancouver Community Arts Council is inviting artists, cultural workers, arts organizations, collectives, venues, and presenters across the North Shore to share their experiences and priorities through our Arts & Culture Advocacy Survey.

Your feedback will help shape a sector-wide advocacy strategy, action plan, toolkit, and practical resources to help strengthen the collective voice of arts and culture.

Sivan Baron Booba Prints Illustrator & Linocut Printmaker & Natalie Schuler Natalie Schuler incorporate fibre arts into their intimate artwork – Baron embroiders her linocut prints of treasured memories & whimsical daydreams, while Schuler stitches eating utensils into abstract paintings discussing the relationship between eating & her body.

Thank you everyone who came to our Mandarin exhibition tour for Words + Pictures. It was great to see so many engaged & interested art lovers. A huge thank to tour guide Michelle Wang!

Have you checked out Alissa Kim Tjen Alissa Kim Tjen’s stunning artwork in the exhibition The Dreaming at Kay Meek Arts Centre ?

Her practice engages water as both image and unknowable surface-one that mediates between perception and the subconscious. The canvas functions as a liminal field, akin to the surface of water, where internal and external realities converge and continuously reshape one another.
Working through a semi-abstract language allows forms to emerge through a process of intuitive layering. These gestures operate less as depictions of landscape and more like a record of affect, memory, and perceptual instability.
The work proposes a contemplative space in which vision is slowed, and the act of seeing is reoriented inward. Here, landscape is not a fixed site, but a fluid construct-formed through the interplay of presence, perception, and the subconscious.

The Dreaming is on display until November 1.

Have you experienced Biliana Velkova Biliana Velkova’s incredible artwork in the exhibition The Dreaming at Kay Meek Arts Centre ?

Her recent series, The Balkan Weather Tales, draws from Bulgarian folklore, reimagining mythological beings once used to explain natural torces like drought, storms, or circadian rhythms. These creatures, once brought to life through song and oral tradition, now resurface in layered, hypnotic drawings that bridge ancient belief systems and contemporary anxieties. In these works, the mystical and the mundane coexist, offering a space where the past haunts the present and the unknown continues to hold power.

The Dreaming is on display until November 1.

Today - experience the magic of storytelling, the oldest art form! Cric? Crac! Storytelling at 4:30pm at the Silk Purse Arts Centre.

Join longtime professional & emerging tellers for folktales, personal narratives, poetry & music.
Everyone will have a chance to share in the Ex Tempore circle following the reception of chai & treats.

Presented with the North Shore Tellers since 2000.
