‘Recurrence’, featuring opens tonight from 6:00pm - 8:00pm!

Some important notes on the Gallery Accessibility:
💜The Opening Reception is masked-recommended. We have masks that are available at the door.
💜The Matter Gallery is currently only accessible by a flight of narrow stairs with a railing*. We will share images of the artwork, overall display, and exhibit signage on our website for online viewing following the exhibit.
💜There is an accessible, gender-neutral washroom on the main floor.

*The Matter Gallery is located on the buildings lower level, access to the lower level is by stairs only, at this time.

We acknowledge that Matter’s stair-only access to the space presents barriers. Here’s a few ways we are addressing this:

• Virtual and Online options
• Accessibility training

‘Recurrence’ is an exhibit that looks at connection between repetition and comfort. Many people find comfort in routine; in knowing what comes next.

Q uses bold colours, contrasts, and patterns in an effort to elicit a comfortability that can feel hard to grasp at times.

Meet Q, the artist behind ‘Recurrence’, opening March 6!

Q (they/them) is a non binary, q***r artist who was born in Winnipeg. Their work is created around bold colours, movements, and patterns. Q creates art that brings a sense of calm and beauty to them, and hopes others feel the same.

“I have participated in a group show at Matter in the past (Home; (Re)Created). I feel it is important for q***r artists and q***r art to be taken in. Being a q***r person of colour, it can be a little more challenging to be seen and heard.

Creating and viewing art is so important. It can be a gentle reminder that even though things seem terrible, there are many beautiful things, and I wish to be a part of that.”
