Canadian Museum for Human Rights

Canadian Museum for Human Rights Welcome to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights on Facebook. Code of conduct
We aim to create a space to explore human rights that is safe for everyone.

Located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights is the first museum solely dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights. The Museum’s mandate is to enhance understanding of human rights, promote respect for others and encourage reflection and dialogue. We are committed to maintaining a respectful forum for discussion and dialogue. Dialogue occurs through a

respectful exchange of ideas and an openness to understanding someone else’s point of view. It’s about making an effort to be understood, while at the same time making an effort to listen, inquire and learn. Our code of conduct calls on participants to:
· stay on topic
· respect the rights, differences and opinions of others
· treat others the way you wish to be treated
· scrutinize ideas, not the people putting them forward
Please be advised that if you violate this code of conduct, we will remove your post. Repeated violations may result in you being blocked from the Museum’s page. Thank you for participating in the conversations on this page. The Museum is committed to bringing people together to explore human rights, in Canada, and around the world. We invite you to help us create an environment that promotes the awareness and advancement of human rights. We may reproduce the best comments on another platform, such as our website at humanrights.ca. We look forward to hearing from you! What kinds of comments will be removed?
· Personal attacks: Attacks against other commenters will be removed. Abusive or threating posts will not be tolerated.
· Discrimination: Targeting a group of people or posting generalizations about groups of people based on attributes such as race, ethnicity, country of origin, religion, age, s*x, s*xual orientation or gender identity is not allowed.

May 31 is the start of National AccessAbility Week (NAAW). To mark the week, we spent some time with Yvonne Peters, a champion for disability rights and one of our Board trustees, and got her thoughts on the importance of accessibility.

Are you in the Edmonton area and looking for a little inspiration?

For months, students in grades 5-12 have researched human rights issues that are important to them and how they can use their own strengths and abilities to take action.

Now, the students are ready to show off their projects and chat with visitors at the annual Upstander Showcase, hosted at the Royal Alberta Museum on Thursday, May 28, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Admission is free, so stop by and check out these upstander students who are already working hard to improve the world around them.

May 22 is known as Harvey Milk Day - a day to recognize the contributions of Harvey Milk in advancing the rights of 2SLGBTQI+ people.

Milk was a prominent gay activist before being elected as the first openly gay politician elected to California public office.

During his short time in office, he sponsored a bill banning discrimination based on s*xual orientation in public accommodations, housing, and employment, which passed 11-1.

In 1978, Milk was assassinated by the former city supervisor who cast the lone vote against Milk's bill.

Harvey Milk is featured in the Museum's "Human Rights Through Time" exhibit on Level 2.
