ᑕᐅᑐᑉᐹ Tautuppaa | Long Looking: Tim Pitsiulak is on display in the Main Gallery.

The exhibition highlights the distinct way of seeing that underpins Pitsiulak's work – perception honed on the land as both a hunter and an artist. For Pitsiulak, these pursuits were intricately intertwined, both stemming from his practice of "long looking." In Inuktitut, tautuppaa means to see or to look for a long time. Pitsiulak’s unique style, and attention to detail and texture, offers much to be discovered through our own long looking.

ᑕᐅᑐᑉᐹ Tautuppaa | Long Looking: Tim can be seen until June 20, 2026. The exhibition is accompanied by introductory text in English, French, and Inuktitut syllabics.

Curated by Taqralik Partridge and organized by the with the generous support of lenders and the Department of Canadian Heritage.

From the Vault:

Taches d’ancre XVII, was created in 1965 by Canadian artist Normand Hudon. Commonly known for his work as a caricaturist, someone who creates exaggerated or animated portraits, this piece was not characteristic of Hudon. Using vibrant colours and semi-representational shapes, this work is more abstract than his usual style. Taches d’ancre XVII has been in WAG’s Permanent Collection since 1984 and was included in the 1996 WAG exhibition “Curate’s Egg.”
