🎶 If you want to write a song about the moon
You want to write a spiritual tune
Presto, a song about the moon 🎶
—Paul Simon

Let the enchanting glow of tonight's full moon ignite your creativity! 🌝 Throughout history, the moon has been a source of inspiration for artists worldwide, spanning generations and genres.

As early as the 17th century, artists like French engraver Claude Mellan looked to capture the essence of the moon. This modern-looking engraving is one of three remarkable prints he created that depict the phases of the moon. Mellan drew what he observed through a telescope, which had only been invented by the Dutch some 30 years prior.

Commissioned by French humanist Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc and astronomy enthusiast Pierre Gassendi, these prints unite art and science in celestial harmony.
