The Format Contemporary Culture Gallery, Glenda Cinquegrana:The Studio and Art.Lab Gallery, are pleased to announce an exclusively cultural event during the week of the Art Basel 2014, The Grass Grows, a group show made of 30 Italian and international artists. The Grass Grows wants to display a particular point of view over a group of selected artists, that all have in common the vocation to the r
esearch and the linguistic experimentation. The purpose of this show is, while keeping its ways far from the commercial mentality that is proper of the fair event, to offer a complementary vision to the main fair. This show is based on a concept that claims to be Emergent, Alternative and Experimental. Emergent, Alternative and Experimental. The Grass Grows implies a triplex purpose, showed in the three key words of the event. Emergent: the first is to give a space to young art, primarily Italian, but also international, that has grown as the grass in the last years, and that has still not included in the realm of the top levels of the art market. Alternative: the second is to call the attention to the fact that high profile commercial events have lost their open eye on the new forms of expression, and when focusing on the well-known segments of the art market, have become too conservative. Experimental: the third purpose is to point out that contemporary art grows and develops new ideas for the future only from its main root represented by the linguistic and the cultural experimentation. The Grass Grows testifies how creativity has grown alone, digging its own space that stays far from the look of the more recognized institutions. The show, consisting of a complex exhibition project made of 30 artists, and that is distributed on two floors, is composed of two main parts: the one entitled Acknowledgement at the ground floor, stands as a rigorous selection of single pieces for each artist displayed; the second entitled Resolution at the underground floor, is offering a huger presentation for every single artist. This part is made with the purpose to give to visitors the possibility to deepen their own understanding on the different researches of the selected artists. This exhibition project has been chosen opposing the classical and synthetic presentations, typical of the commercial fairs. Le gallerie The Format Contemporary Culture Gallery, Glenda Cinquegrana: the Studio ed Art.Lab Gallery sono liete di presentare, durante la settimana della fiera di Art Basel 2014 un evento a carattere squisitamente culturale, ovvero la mostra The Grass Grows | L'Erba Cresce, un Group show composto da 30 artisti italiani ed internazionali. L’esposizione si propone di offrire una panoramica di un gruppo di artisti, tutti accomunati dalla vocazione alla ricerca e alla sperimentazione linguistica, dove la mostra vuole offrire un punto di vista complementare a quello della fiera principale, aprendo al pubblico della città di Basilea una vetrina, rigorosamente lontana dalle logiche commerciali che sono proprie di quell’evento principale, rappresentato dalla fiera. Appunto emergente, alternativa e sperimentale. Il Group Show sottintende un triplice scopo che è racchiuso dalle tre parole chiave
dell’evento. Emergente: il primo è l’intento di dare spazio non solo a un’arte giovane, prevalentemente italiana, ma anche internazionale, che è cresciuta come l’erba in questi ultimi anni, e che resta ancora esclusa dai livelli alti del mercato. Alternativa: il secondo consiste nel voler mettere in evidenza come quegli stessi eventi commerciali di alto profilo abbiano perduto una qualunque forma di apertura verso nuove forme di espressione, più altre, per concentrarsi solo su segmenti di mercato più noti, e dunque conservatori. Sperimentale: il terzo è ricordare che
solo dalla radice della sperimentazione linguistica e culturale, l’arte contemporanea germoglia e sviluppa nuove idee per il futuro. The Grass Grows | L’Erba Cresce è una metafora che testimonia quanto la creatività sia cresciuta e da sola stia scavando il suo spazio, a prescindere dallo sguardo delle istituzioni più acclarate. La mostra, che si articola come complesso progetto curatoriale composto di ben 30 artisti, è stata concepita, all’interno dei due piani che costituiscono lo spazio espositivo, come formata da due parti, così intitolate: ACKNOWLEDGMENT/Accettazione al piano terra, che consiste
nell’esposizione di una panoramica dei differenti lavori, sotto forma di selezione rigorosissima di opere per ciascun artista; RESOLUTION | Riconoscimento al piano sotterraneo, in cui di ogni artista, viene fornita una presentazione più ampia di opere, al fine di fornire maggiori strumenti di conoscenza e approfondimento sui singoli artisti, sviluppandone le differenti poetiche. Un progetto curatoriale che si oppone alle presentazioni sintetiche, finalizzate al solo mercato, tipiche delle più classiche fiere d’arte.
