((ENGLISH))
Back in 2004, Philipp Brogli has created a platform with Artstübli that represents all contemporary facets of urban art and culture, from Graffiti to Street Art. Artstübli became a gallery in 2014 by moving into a 125 m2 space in the circular buildings of the Markthalle Basel. In addition to specially curated exhibitions, Brogli conveys and coordinates projects like facade paintings, interior design, event appearances, but also guerrilla actions and interventions. Basel has a rich array of art and urban to be discovered in its public spaces. Artstübli organizes authentic urban art and graffiti tours, accompanied by artists and experts of the scene. Selected areas from the city center to the famous railroad line are offered and can be booked. Since 2022, events of installative, culinary and performative arts are presented under the labels ARTYOU Installation, ARTYOU Culinary and ARTYOU Performance, which are no longer exclusively in the context of urban art. The transformation is also intended to contribute specifically to networking among the respective participating art and culture professionals, art venues, institutions and research projects.

KOSTAS MAROS – Traces of Absence

In Myths of Everyday Life, Kostas Maros photographs urban spaces as if something has just happened or is about to. No faces, no gestures. Only traces of actions that have already taken place, and a mood that reaches beyond the frame. There is something cinematic about these images. Like an establishing shot, they don’t tell us where the story is going. They place us inside a feeling.

Vernissage: Thursday, June 4, from 6 pm

KOSTAS MAROS – Traces of Absence

We warmly invite you to the vernissage of Traces of Absence, a solo exhibition by Basel-based photographer Kostas Maros.

Vernissage: Thursday, June 4, from 6 pm
with burgers by FYYRSTELL Velo

Art Basel event: Tuesday, June 16, from 6 pm on site
Finissage: Saturday, June 27, 2–6 pm

The exhibition brings together works from the series Myths of Everyday Life and Cicatrice, exploring landscapes and urban spaces as traces of human presence and memory. Between nocturnal city scenes, quiet light atmospheres, and the monumental marble quarries of Carrara, the photographs move between documentary observation and atmospheric intensity.

In first serie, Maros focuses on the marble quarries of Carrara - landscapes shaped by extraction, history, and human intervention. The monumental cuts into the mountains reveal tensions between nature, industry, and aesthetics, while pointing toward long-term ecological transformation.

Opening hours:
Thursday / Friday: 11 am – 6 pm
Saturday: 2 – 6 pm
Art Basel Week:
June 15 – 20, daily from 11 am – 6 pm

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of THE LIVING LINE by Timo Paris. It was an intense and generous evening filled with encounters, movement, and conversation. We are deeply grateful for your presence and for activating the space with us at the beginning of this process. For this residency, our art space has transformed into a temporary atelier and working environment. Since the opening, .paris has been developing a large-scale drawing in direct relation to the space. Moving between breaking, performative research, and drawing, his practice treats the line as movement, trace, and social form.

During his stay, the studio remains open and active: Timo is on site and working Tuesday–Friday (9am - 4pm) and Saturdays (11am - 4pm), continuing to perforate, extend, and reconfigure the drawing in dialogue with the space and its visitors.

We warmly invite you to the Public Dance Sessions (6pm - 9pm): 19 May / 21 May / 26 May

The exhibition is on view until 30.05.2026, and we warmly invite you to return, witness the process over time, and engage with its ongoing transformation.

Opening hours:

TIMO PARIS – The Living Line

We warmly invite you to the opening of THE LIVING LINE, a process-based, interdisciplinary project by Timo Paris, on Wednesday, May 13 at 6 pm.
Artstübli – Kunst & Kultur, Steinentorberg 28, Basel

Our space transforms into a temporary studio and shared working environment. Basel-based artist Timo Paris develops a large-scale drawing in direct relation to the space, unfolding continuously over the course of his residency. Situated between breaking, performative research, and drawing, His practice understands line as movement, trace, and social form. Bodily motion is translated into drawing, while lines become starting points for encounters, exchange, and collective practice.

The project opens the space as a participatory environment: visitors are invited to witness the process, return over time, and engage with the evolving work. Alongside the drawing, the space hosts open dance sessions, activating it as a site of rehearsal, gathering, and shared experimentation with the local community.

The project will be on view from May 13 to May 31, 2026.
Public dance sessions (6-9pm): May 19 / May 21 / May 26 / May 28

A closer look at the photographic series from MIKROTOPIA by Franziska Baumgartner.

For these works, Baumgartner explores the different flow behaviours of ink and acrylic binder on slide plates. Through analogue enlargement and exposure, intricate structures emerge, resembling microbes or speculative extraterrestrial organisms. The inversion of colours and use of transmitted light create an almost X-ray-like aesthetic, oscillating between scientific observation and fiction.

Selected prints from the series are available.

The exhibition is on view until April 25, 2026, we warmly invite you to visit.
