Still inspired by yesterday’s Encaustic Workshop led by the talented Sámi artist, Jo Morten Kåven. After a thoughtful and instructive introduction to this ancient wax-based technique, it was incredible to see how quickly everyone transformed raw materials into such expressive, layered works.

The process—melting, fusing, and building with pigment and wax—felt both meditative and experimental, and the results speak for themselves. Each piece carried its own story, texture, and depth.

Encaustic Art Workshop with Sámi artist, Jo Morten Kåven

Description: Explore the World of Encaustic Wax Painting
Already used by the ancient Greeks, this technique is today a favourite of the Sámi visual artist Jo Morten Kåven, who works with heated wax to create vibrant colours and striking effects. In this workshop, he invites you to experiment freely and create textured, expressive works. You will discover the basics of encaustic painting while working hands-on with this unique and versatile medium.

Another extraordinary chapter comes to a close ✨
The Climat et migration exhibition at the Palais de la Porte Dorée in Paris has officially ended, after welcoming over 100,000 visitors.
The journey doesn’t stop here. A lighter, mobile version of the exhibition will be launched in June 2026, making it accessible—free of charge—to a wide range of venues, including schools, libraries, and cultural and community spaces.

Deeply grateful to the entire team for their professionalism, meticulous attention to detail, and unwavering respect for the artworks at every stage of this project.

✨ Discover the works of 70 artists and duojárs from Sápmi in the exhibition, Eanangiella – Voice of the Land at the Oulu Art Museum ✨ on view until early May — creations that honour memory, resilience, and the sacredness of life. Curated by Inga-Wiktoria Påve, Fredrik Prost, and Áilu Valle, the exhibition brings together powerful artistic voices rooted in Sámi worldviews and lived experience.

Through resonant visual language, Tomas Colbengtson's works stand among other expressive artistic voices reflecting on the lasting impact of colonialism on the Sámi people: the loss of culture, the weight of oppression, and yet also the enduring strength and possibility of cultural renewal. His art speaks of resilience, identity, and the deep richness of Sámi worldviews.
