We’re delighted to announce "Saisons", a new series of offsite events organized by the Kunsthalle Friart Fribourg. Please join us for the launch and first episode on March 19!

"Saisons" is conceived as an invitation to audiences, artists, and cultural actors who contribute to the art scene in Fribourg from both near and far. Each episode follows a meteorological cycle (a season) and a specific artistic medium. Developed each time within and for a unique site in Fribourg, "Saisons" aims to create a space for temporary communities arising from the interactions between the people present, the artworks, and the space.

The first episode is taking place at WallStreet, an independent art space in Fribourg, and is dedicated to the medium of both sound and language. Two readings will be presented, followed by an ambient listening session.

Pascale Bonin Nunlist has been pursuing a writing practice for many years, but has only recently begun to share her work in public and through radio formats. For "Saisons", she invites the audience to follow narrative loops and imaginary wanderings, to listen to fragments which want to be heard, and to let itself be carried along by the flow of her thoughts.

Joséphine de Weck is an author, actress, and creator of stage projects. Recently, she has published the novel "La petite lutte" with Éditions La Veilleuse. For "Saisons", she presents a text collage drawn from her collection of 1,233 quotes. A unique text form emerges from this montage, making the words of others to superimpose with her own.

Romaine Wuilleret is part of the Fribourg-based transition radio. As a DJ and under the name of e-skola, she creates sound scapes which fuse acoustic and electronic vibrations, evoking both enchanted worlds and tender nostalgia.

A bar will be open and drinks will be served throughout the evening.

The Kunsthalle Friart Fribourg is delighted to announce the upcoming group exhibition 'Passages'. Feel warmly invited to join us for the opening on Friday, March 13, 2026 starting from 6pm.

'Passages' is an exhibition about the mutability of matter and life. Just as all living things exist between growth and decay, it explores processes of coming-into-form and dissolution of form. Materiality becomes a site of transformation, where things pass from one state into another.

With: Nat Faulkner, Solomon Garçon, Keta Gavasheli, Gaylen Ge**er with Leah Ke Yi Zheng, Hervé Guibert, Nour Mobarak, Henrik Olesen, B. Ingrid Olson, Anastasia Pavlou, Matthew Peers, Cora Pongracz, Pope.L, Ariana Reines and Oscar Tuazon, Dieter Roth, Sava Sekulić

The Kunsthalle Friart Fribourg is delighted to announce our upcoming exhibition Olga Balema: “The bizarre space of complex numbers”. Feel warmly invited to join us for the opening on Friday, November 28, 2025 at 5pm.

The exhibition is curated by Kathrin Bentele, the new Artistic Director at Kunsthalle Friart Fribourg – marking the beginning of her artistic program –, and has been initiated by Nicolas Brulhart.

Olga Balema’s practice explores sculpture as a form open to reconfiguration and process. “The bizarre space of complex numbers” is dedicated to Balema’s floor works of the last years and is the first solo exhibition of the artist in Switzerland. It proposes the floor as an open field in which relations and configurations are set up in the horizontal as a kind of anti-monumental plane, involving processes of frottage, scuffing, cutting, stitching, bending, tying together, linking, and releasing. Balema’s work situates form and form-making between intentionality and chance and involves a continued reworking of existing elements.

Art & Alienation
Ethan Assouline, Hannah Black, Mauro Cerqueira, Jimmie Durham, Morag Keil, Milena Langer, Delphine Mouly, Richard Sides

What form might a work of art take that seeks to convey something of this sense of alienation in the present? Art & Alienationbrings together more or less recent works by 8 artists, most of whom live in Europe. Each artist presents extracts from what is often experimental and in-flux practice. These singular universes mask a shared idea: artistic practice is also always a critique of production. Artistic creation always already comes into being alienated in capital’s abstraction. The irresolvable contradictions on the social, creative and economic horizon of art only reach resolution in negation.

In the exhibition, the abrasive dimension of existence is inscribed in forms of deskilling, economic insecurity and détournement. False equivalences and errors of the mind haunt this exploration of a subject as old as the idea of modernity itself.

Friart is delighted to announce that Kathrin Bentele has been appointed new artistic director of Kunsthalle Friart Fribourg, starting in October 2025.

The board emphasizes Kathrin Bentele's distinct curatorial practice, which she has developed over the past four years as director of the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen in Düsseldorf, testifying to a profound understanding of the institution as a site of production, mediation, collective exchange and dialogue. The board has particularly appreciated her overall curatorial concept for the Kunsthalle Friart, which develops across various artistic formats and fosters a dialogue between international and Swiss artists, as well as artists and cultural workers from Fribourg.

“Since its foundation, the Kunsthalle Friart Fribourg has been distinguished by an experimental and independent exhibition making practice – developed in close dialogue with artists –, as well as by an expanded understanding of the contemporary, in which the historical and the peripheries and margins of the present are also reflected upon. I look forward to further developing this exceptional institutional culture and identity. My program is based on various artistic formats and comprehends the institution in an integral sense, in which exhibition production, discourse and a communal attitude intertwine.” Kathrin Bentele

Azize Ferizi and Jeremy
Spring / Summer 25

The Spring / Summer 25 exhibition interweaves the work of two artists who use painting to explore the projective relationships between the body and its image. Drawing on investigations into colour, brushstrokes and surface, they construct a Mannerist-inspired visual approach. Their representation of figures, like character studies, evoke both the contagious sentimentalism of our time and feelings of constraint and alienation.

The two artists, who are from the Fribourg region, have conceived their exhibition as an intimate dialogue on painting. Jeremy takes his inspiration from narratives from the world of animé and illustration. He brings together references from classical painting and popular culture in a deliberately camp take. Azize Ferizi develops a more structural approach, integrating notions of repetition, gaze and pose in a general economy of the image.

Feedback Follies

For Michael Egger research and exploration count as much, if not more, as the finished product. Each component is thus susceptible to being reworked, modified and updated, until eventually it becomes obsolete. The artist makes most of the components for his prototypes himself, right down to the detail of the electronic circuits.
