Throughout its history, photography has been shaped by surfaces—both those it captures and those on which it appears. Early processes like the daguerreotype and calotype made photographs fragile, tactile objects. Reflective metal, absorbent paper, and hand-applied emulsions revealed the medium’s material roots.

In this exhibition, eight contemporary artists explore surfaces in distinct and complementary ways. Jörg Brockmann perceives the surfaces like a constantly changing playground where everyday life poetry is written.

The exhibition approaches paper not merely as a medium, but as a field of possibility, a white space where expression begins. Fragile yet resistant, intimate yet expansive, paper becomes more than a support: it becomes a conscious choice.

The artists in this exhibition explore the sensibility of paper as material and gesture. Through drawing, cutting, layering and mark-making, paper is activated as presence. Here, it is not a preliminary step, but a radical decision -a poetic commitment to the immediacy, vulnerability and strength that this material holds.

Glazed Realities explores contemporary ceramic practices as tools for storytelling, experimentation, and transformation.

Featuring six innovative artists - Nacoca Ko .ko ; Fernando de la Rocque ; Jan Steenman ; Heberth Sobral .sobral ;
Irene Venetsanou and Vasilis Zografos - the exhibition, curated by Vasilis Zografos, demonstrates how ceramic surfaces reflect memory, ideas, and social narratives, creating new “realities” imbued with fragility, luminosity, and ambiguity. Through glazing, texture, and material manipulation, the participating artists investigate the intersection of materiality, perception, and human experience.
