Sitara Abuzar Ghaznawi
„Embarrassment of Riches“

For her solo exhibition in Glarus, Sitara Abuzar Ghaznawi (b.1995 in Ghazni, living and working in Basel and Sarnen) has produced a set of 50 collages. Condensed into a series, the project generates a distinctly personal iconography – flowers, truck collector cards, drawings, plastic packaging, the artist’s own signature, and again and again also an intimated horizon.

The project uses sheets from a dummy book block from the publication by another artist that dictates the format and number of collages. Sometimes the visual space is full of objects, sometimes a sheet is loosely painted with silver colour. Every day a collage, and then the next. The work evolves from progressively appropriating the format and the individual visual imagery, reinterpreting formal hierarchies and cloaking it with a personal rationale.

The exhibition was initiated by Melanie Ohnemus and is curated by Ann-Kathrin Eickhoff.

Sitara Abuzar Ghaznawi
„Embarrassment of Riches“

Für ihre Einzelausstellung in Glarus hat Sitara Abuzar Ghaznawi (*1995 in Ghazni, lebt und arbeitet in Basel und Sarnen) eine Serie aus fünfzig Collagen produziert. In der Serie verdichtet entsteht so eine eindeutige eigene Ikonographie: Blumen, Truck-Sammelbilder, Zeichnungen, Verpackungen aus Plastik, die Signatur der Künstlerin, immer wieder auch ein angedeuteter Horizont.

Für die Collagen hat die Künstlerin die Papierbögen eines Buchblock-Dummys der Publikation eines anderen Künstlers benutzt, der das Format und die Anzahl der Collagen vorgibt. Mal sind die Bildräume voll mit Gegenständen, mal ist ein Blatt lose mit silberner Farbe bemalt. Jeden Tag eine Collage, dann die nächste – sich das Format und die eigenen Bildsprachen und Formen erneut aneignend entstand so eine Arbeit, die formalen Hierarchien umdeutet und eine eigene Logik darüberlegt.

Die Ausstellung wurde von Melanie Ohnemus initiiert und wird von Ann-Kathrin Eickhoff kuratiert.

„Bildersaal“

For his first solo exhibition, „Bildersaal“, Nolan Lucidi (b.2000, living and working in Basel) shows an installation with video and objects dealing with male homosexual desire in literature and art history, as well as from personal experience. In so doing, Lucidi examines the form language and authority of Minimalism and its legacy in popular aesthetics, overwriting it with auto-fictional and erotic narratives.

The side hall of the Kunsthaus Glarus is transformed into an intimate and poetic choreography of moving images concerning seeing, being seen and desire that also incorporate the viewer. Metal objects, with echoes of Donald Judd, become screens for cinematic counter-stories that examine the relationship between safe space and public figure/performance in life, literature and art.

Für seine erste institutionelle Einzelausstellung zeigt Nolan Lucidi (*2000, lebt und arbeitet in Basel) mit „Bildersaal“ eine Installation mit Video und Objekten, die sich mit männlichem homosexuellem Begehren in der Literatur- und Kunstgeschichte sowie im persönlichen Erleben befasst. Dabei untersucht Lucidi die Formensprache und Autorität des Minimalismus und sein Erbe in der Alltagsästhetik und überschreibt sie mit autofiktionalen und erotischen Narrativen.

Der Seitenlichtsaal des Kunsthaus Glarus wird transformiert zu einer intimen und poetischen Choreografie bewegter Bilder von Sehen, Gesehenwerden und Begehren, die auch die Besucher:innen miteinbezieht. An die Arbeiten von Donald Judd erinnernde Metallobjekte werden zu Bildschirmen für filmische Gegenerzählungen, welche das Verhältnis zwischen geschütztem Raum und öffentlicher Figur/Performance in Leben, Literatur und Kunst untersuchen.

For her first comprehensive institutional solo exhibition of the group of works entitled „RESIDUAL SKY“, the artist Akosua Viktoria Adu-Sanyah (b.1990, living and working in Zurich) creates large-format, manually exposed and enlarged colour photographs based on historical negatives of her father’s birthplace in what is today Ghana originating from the British Empire and Commonwealth Collection in Bristol.

Adu-Sanyah’s work does not focus on the people shown, whose depiction and staging reproduces the violent hierarchies of the British colonial context, but instead selects details from the upper third of the images – the sky and the crowns of trees – which she then multiplies, swivels, condenses, and then physically appropriates through the manual process of enlargement and developing.

Der erste Ausstellungszyklus dieses Jahres eröffnet mit drei Einzelausstellungen in jeweils einem der charakteristischen Ausstellungsräume des Kunsthaus Glarus, begleitet von der Präsentation einer Auswahl von Werken aus der Sammlung des Glarner Kunstvereins im unteren Geschoss, womit eine einjährige Erforschung der Sammlung eingeleitet wird.
