Bilder - Portfolio 1.

A rare first collection of 10 « Bilder » booklets created between 1968 and 1971, which Martin Parr considered one of the most important collections of artist’s books of the twentieth century. A collection that corresponds in every way to the one presented in « The Open Book, » Hasselblad Center, which contains: Airplanes (1968), Knees (1969), Families (1970), 2 Girls (1970), Coat (1970), Shoes (1971), Mountains (1971), Clouds (1971), Football Players (1971), and Pyramid (1971).

Hilden: Hans Peter Feldmann, 1968-1971.
10 stapled booklets of varying sizes, covers of thick gray paper, some blueish, titles and artist’s name stamped on the front covers, 89-220 mm x 105-210 mm. All contained in the original four-flap portfolio, with black ribbons and eyelet, inked Fedmann on the cover (225 x 216 mm). Gilles Peress
Farewell to Bosnia

Published By Scalo, Zurich, in 1994. First edition.
Pictorial boards, 37 x 28 cm

Design by Gilles Peress and Yolanda Cuomo.
168 pages, 250 photographs reproduced in duotone.

« Farewell to Bosnia covers a period of almost six months during 1993, focusing primarily on the areas of Tuzla, central Bosnia, Mostar and Sarajevo. The work was initiated by Francois Hers, who was familiar with Peress’s ongoing project about the reemerging patterns of hate and discrimination in Europe – Hate Thy Brother – and who, because of his contacts in Bosnia, felt the urgency to have a visual documentation of what was happening in the Balkans. Peress set out to provide an illustrated continuum of experience and existence, and only having a small period of time could not explain everything that was occurring in Bosnia; not the historical intricacies of the breakup, nor the weight of blood that soaked the region. »
