«404_LAND» opens online on virtual.hek.ch on June 12, 5 PM CET.

In collaboration with Martin Juras and Levi Hammett .location, Hind Al Saad presents «SELF(ENCODED)» in the upcoming online exhibition «404_LAND».
The interactive work places the visitor inside a recursive conversation with a machine. Facial features feed the loop with new data and return as fragmented frames, layers of encoding, compression and loss.
What remains of the self when the face is no longer seen as a face, but as extractable data?

Presented as part of the Tezos Foundation x HEK 2026 partnership with , curated by Auronda Scalera and Alfredo Cramerotti

Feel it before you hear it.

Stefanie Egedy describes her compositions as “sub-bass massages”: low-frequency sound that moves through space, objects, tissue and bone.

As an audible extension of «New Rituals [for the End of the World]», «Sonic Energetics» invites visitors into 20 minutes of vibration, pressure and physical presence.

With «The Models», dmstfctn stages an endless sequence of AI-driven scenes inside a 3D game engine.
Inspired by Commedia dell’Arte, two characters improvise around props, roles and contradictions. Friendly, deceptive, servile, antagonistic or absurd — they perform conversations that almost make sense.
The result is an interactive live simulation suspended between theatre, performance, procedural absurdity and generative AI.

Artist focus: Gabriel Massan

In Victims, Gabriel Massan transforms machinima into a space of tension, repetition, and endurance.

Part of the ongoing series Ball Of Terror, the work unfolds in a simulated world where bodies fall, rise, collapse, and remain suspended in loops. Sound, movement, glitches, and abrupt transitions become the grammar of an experience that refuses to resolve.

A digital environment shaped by precarity, instability, and the fragile condition of bodies caught inside political and technological systems, where existing is already an act of resistance.

HEK presents five works of early net art from its collection at Zero 10, Art Basel’s global initiative dedicated to art of the digital era.

Bringing together web-based archives, game modifications, networked systems, glitches and data-driven sound, the presentation traces a moment when artists began using the internet not only as a tool, but as a medium, a space and a system to be explored.

HEK and the Tezos Foundation are announcing 404_LAND, a group exhibition curated by Auronda Scalera and Alfredo Cramerotti .

A show where error becomes both metaphor and framework. Taking its name from the HTTP 404 error, 404_LAND treats the error as an entry point into spaces that resist being mapped, owned, or resolved.

The six artists participating, Gabriel Massan, dmstfctn, Varvara & Mar, Hind Al Saad (with Martin Juras and Levi Hammett), Kat Zhang the Poet Engineer, and Alida Sun, work across machinima, generative systems, interactive simulation, machine vision, AI dialogue, and speculative worldbuilding.

The show, premiering on virtual.hek.ch on June 12th, will run through August 9th, 2026 and is the first of two virtual exhibitions produced as part of the 2026 partnership, with one more to follow, alongside an outdoor presentation at the museum during Art Basel.

Even your phone might need a cleansing ritual.

In Purgr (2026), Anan Fries imagines a technospiritual purification device for the smartphone — an object both intimate and deeply entangled in systems of extraction, exploitation, and profit. By placing a phone onto the sculpture, an everyday gesture becomes a ritual of care, cleansing, and temporary detachment.

Blending body horror with Gothic form, the work reflects on how late-stage capitalism turns even repair into a commodity.
