Il Teatro dell’architettura Mendrisio è stato progettato dall’arch. Mario Botta, promosso e realizzato grazie al lavoro congiunto dell’Università della Svizzera italiana e della Fondazione Teatro dell’architettura. Accanto all’attività didattica e di ricerca svolte all’interno dell’ateneo, questa iniziativa ha come obiettivo favorire nuove iniziative che rafforzino l’offerta formativa, in particol

are in riferimento alle occasioni espositive e seminariali, e nel contempo dare visibilità ai nuovi interessi transdisciplinari che sempre più intervengono nel processo progettuale e che ridefiniscono il ruolo sociale dell’architettura. La missione del Teatro dell’architettura è di agire come un laboratorio di idee e di eventi, un luogo di sperimentazione, una piattaforma di scambio con altre istituzioni e, soprattutto, uno strumento contemporaneo che percepisce e trasmette le tendenze culturali in atto a livello locale, nazionale e internazionale. L’edificio, aperto al pubblico dall’autunno 2018, ha un diametro di 27 metri e una superficie di circa 3.000 metri quadrati, la pianta centrale circolare con tre piani fuori terra e due piani interrati rimanda alla tipologia del teatro anatomico. Unico nel suo genere, il Teatro dell’architettura contribuisce significativamente alla nuova immagine identitaria dell’Accademia di architettura del Campus Mendrisio offrendo degli spazi adatti per diverse tipologie di utilizzo come mostre, conferenze ed eventi.

Alcuni scatti dalla preview stampa delle nuove mostre. Un’anteprima con gli interventi di Riccardo Blumer, Direttore Accademia di architettura-USI e Marco Della Torre, Responsabile del TAM, insieme a curatori e artisti.
Pino Musi e Michael Jakob hanno raccontato il progetto site-specific « Pino Musi. Continuum ».
Franz Graf con Britta Buzzi, Carlo Dusi, Alessandro Bonizzoni e Sebastiano V***a, ha presentato « La costruzione dell’architettura in Ticino, 1939–1996. Materialità e tettonica ».
Duilio Forte, con Simon Fikstvedt e Barbara Stallone, ha spiegato l’esperienza collettiva di « Sleipnir e il Labirinto di Porte ».

In the atrium of TAM, the installation “Sleipnir and the Labyrinth of Doors” features the sculpture Sleipnir, set within a labyrinth of doors designed and built by students from the Academy of Architecture, transforming the space into a symbolic and architectural path that explores the relationship between humankind, space and design process.

The exhibition “Architectural Construction in Ticino, 1939–1996. Materiality and Tectonics” offers a reinterpretation of over fifty years of Ticino architecture through one hundred buildings selected for their significance from a constructional point of view. Documented through drawings, models, images and archival documents, the buildings are examined in terms of their physicality, in which materials, techniques and structural systems become tools for understanding the tectonics and poetics of the architectural works.
The exhibition project stems from two decades of research conducted by the Construction and Technology Area of USI Academy of Architecture with students. The exhibition highlights in particular twelve buildings, each accompanied by a publication featuring and also includes a selection of models, reports from RSI and a photographic series by Roberto Conte.

🔺Save the date - Opening on Thursday 7 May at 6:30 pm

The exhibition “Pino Musi. Continuum”, curated by Michael Jakob, presents a selection of black-and-white photographs that investigate form, materiality, and the perception of space. Conceived as a site-specific project, the exhibition enters into dialogue with the circular architecture of the gallery and unfolds across six thematic sections. Each section features extended photographic scrolls, sequences of images that coalesce into a single panoramic narrative. Visitors are invited to engage with the central concerns of Musi’s practice, where photography and spatial reflection converge, transforming the act of seeing into a mode of knowledge. The themes explored include the relationship between ruin and the origins of architecture, the meaning of dwelling, the transformations and transitions of built space, and the tensions between surface, form, and incompleteness.
The exhibition is further extended by three large-format works dedicated to the recent restoration of Notre-Dame in Paris, alongside a selection of artist’s books that attest to Musi’s sustained engagement with bookmaking as an autonomous and interdisciplinary mode of expression.

📸 Ricordi dei laboratori al TAM ✨
In attesa delle prossime mostre, condividiamo alcuni momenti dei laboratori che hanno animato il Teatro dell’architettura Mendrisio nell’ambito delle esposizioni recentemente concluse. Tra questi, le attività dedicate all’installazione « Due Esercizi », a cura dell’Atelier Blumer Scholae Riccardo Blumer
🔹L’atelier per famiglie, condotto da Fabrizio Brusorio e Bruna Ferrazzini, ha coinvolto adulti e bambini in un’esplorazione partecipativa dello spazio attraverso il gioco e la costruzione.
🔸Il laboratorio di danza guidato da Alessia Della Casa Veicolo Danza ha tradotto in gesto e movimento le suggestioni dell’installazione, indagando il rapporto tra corpo e architettura.

Un laboratorio dedicato alle famiglie, con bambini dai 4 anni, per esplorare l’Atelier orizzontale Blumer attraverso il corpo, il movimento e gli eventi, indagando lo spazio attraverso pratiche sia performative che costruttive. Gli “esercizi” o per meglio dire le attività ludiche proposte saranno rigorosamente interattive, richiederanno ai partecipanti che gli oggetti esplorati siano dapprima azionati e sperimentati e poi realizzati in una personale rielaborazione, su scala ridotta, attraverso materiali appositamente preparati, che sfocerà in una rappresentazione corale: dapprima trasportati, poi esibiti - in una sorta di “messa in relazione” - per una verifica diretta del loro funzionamento. I partecipanti esploreranno un processo creativo “comune” con quello vissuto dagli studenti dell’Accademia di architettura che hanno progettato le installazioni dell’esposizione “DUE ESERCIZI” attualmente in corso al Teatro dell’architettura Mendrisio.


Durata: 1 ora e mezza
