❄️ ⛷️ While the Winter Olympics unfold on the world stage… 🏅

…we’re looking back to how winter sport was first celebrated in print.
This new curation of original vintage ski and winter sport posters captures the drama, movement and optimism of alpine competition long before floodlights, sponsors and slow-motion replays.

Think pristine snowy mountains, fearless racers, and bold graphic design that distilled speed, strength and winter spectacle into a single image. These are the visual ancestors of the sports we’re watching today — and they still feel remarkably alive.

For collectors, this is a chance to explore newly added originals with real history behind them.
For new followers, it’s an invitation to discover why winter sport posters remain some of the most powerful and collectible works of graphic design.

👉 Save this post if the Olympics have you dreaming of snow, mountains and great design

🚂🎨 At the beginning of the 20th century, Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) was one of the first companies in Switzerland to commission painters and graphic designers to create advertising posters.

With bold imagery and imaginative campaigns, they helped make the Swiss landscape more vibrant — and turned travel promotion into an art form.

🖼️ Today, these iconic posters are more than just historic graphics — they’re highly collectible design pieces.

We’re proud to offer a curated selection of original SBB posters in our collection — available now.

🧊 The Swiss Style (1950s–1960s)
Clean. Clear. Constructed.

The Swiss Style emerged in postwar Switzerland as a powerful new approach to graphic communication — one that prioritised clarity, order, and objectivity.

📐 Influenced by Bauhaus minimalism, the bold geometry of Russian Constructivism, and the typographic experiments of the New Typography movement, Swiss designers developed a visual language that stripped away ornament in favour of functionality and structure.

🧭 The formula?
→ Grid-based layouts
→ Asymmetrical compositions
→ Sans-serif typefaces (like the now-iconic Helvetica)
→ Left-aligned text
→ Black-and-white or high-contrast photography
→ Generous use of white space

The result was a radical new way to design — calm, balanced, and built for international communication in an increasingly globalised world. Posters weren’t just decorative — they were informational tools, distilled to their most legible and logical form.

🎯 Designers like Josef Müller-Brockmann, Armin Hofmann, Max Bill, and Emil Ruder became pioneers of this movement, producing works that are still held up as gold standards in design schools today.

Swipe through some of our exemplary posters from this pivotal era in Swiss graphic design history. Each one captures the discipline, elegance, and modernity that made the Swiss Style such a lasting influence on advertising, publishing, and design education around the world.

🇨🇭 Martin Peikert:
Master of the Swiss Travel Poster

2025 marks 50 years since the passing of Martin Peikert (1901–1975), the visionary behind some of Switzerland’s most iconic travel posters.

Born in Zug, Peikert forged his own path as a
freelance illustrator and painter from the late 1920s.

Free from convention, his vivid, joyful style captured the spirit of Swiss alpine holidays like no other — idealised mountain scenes bursting with colour,
charm, and life.

Whether it's a ski resort or a sunny summer trail, Peikert’s posters are a celebration of Swiss joie de vivre. He even created the beloved 'Villars cow' for Villars chocolate — still instantly recognisable today.

Though underappreciated during his lifetime, Peikert’s legacy has flourished in recent decades. His work continues to inspire collectors and travellers alike.

🇨🇭 Humour has long played a significant role in Swiss advertising, particularly in posters from the early to mid-20th century. Rather than relying solely on bold slogans or stark design, many Swiss graphic artists embraced wit and playfulness to capture attention and convey their message with clarity and charm.

🎨 Humour is a key element in advertising – it has the ability to deliver a message that is quick and easily understandable by a wide audience, making the product approachable and memorable.

🧠 From clever visual metaphors to whimsical characters, these posters show how a touch of humour can transform everyday products into unforgettable icons.
