In Good Company is the first institutional survey in Italy dedicated to Walter Pfeiffer, an artist whose prolific and pioneering work has redefined the codes of photography. With more than one hundred photos in colour and black-and-white, taken from the early 1970s to the present day, the exhibition intertwines Pfeiffer’s most iconic series with previously unseen images, in a non-hierarchical journey that highlights Pfeiffer’s unique contribution to art, photography, and fashion. In Good Company traces Pfeiffer’s polyphonic trajectory, which embraces all genres of art history—especially n**e, portrait, landscape, and still life—with an approach that combines formalism, chromatic force, and sensuality. Repeatedly breaking new ground, Pfeiffer’s practice has systematically ventured into uncharted territory: from his frank portrayals of q***r identities and sexuality to his unprecedented reinvention of high fashion imagery through irony, playfulness, and imperfection.

Caroline Bachmann
On the occasion of the first Milan edition of Paris Internationale, Galerie Gregor Staiger presents three new triptychs by Caroline Bachmann. All titles in Caroline Bachmann’s new body of work begin with An American Lake, a reference to ‘Geneva Lake’ in Wisconsin (USA), where the artist spent a week in the fall of 2024. Habitually based by Lake Geneva in Switzerland, Bachmann became intrigued by this transposed name, its projection, the identity it constructs, and the contingencies of encountering an unfamiliar place that nonetheless carries a familiar designation. Beginning at sunrise and continuing through to sunset, she made a series of drawings that register the lake through an intuitive orchestration of elements. These studies later informed this group of large-scale, horizontal triptychs, a format the artist adopted to evoke the lake as a kind of
persona, an impression that emerged in response to its limited size. While grounded in her sketches and notes, the triptychs reflect not only the artist’s subjective recollection, but also a more expansive sense of longing, one that seems embedded in the site itself, echoing through its layered histories.

Walter Pfeiffer
For Paris Internationale Milano, we are presenting a series of polaroid works spanning almost 50 years of the artists work. The first work dates from 1972, two years before Pfeiffer exhibited photography for the first time at the behest of renowned curator Jean-Christophe Amman at the Kunstmuseum Lucerne in Switzerland. The latest picture is from 2021 and past the date that polaroid film was produced and sold.

WALTER PFEIFFER
1946, Beggingen, Switzerland
Lives and works in Zurich

For five decades, Zurich-based Walter Pfeiffer has developed a multi-faceted practice which bridges photography, film and drawing. Distinguished for his candid photographs of friends, acquaintances and lovers, alongside his colour-intensive still lives, Pfeiffer is often attributed with anticipating the diaristic and natural style of a younger generation of practitioners such as Jack Pierson, Wolfgang Tillmans or Ryan McGinley. Pfeiffer can be seen as a contemporary to the likes of Peter Hujar as well as descendant of the painter Paul Cadmus or the photographer Herbert List, whose observations of the male form and compositions in particular bear a certain kinship with that of Pfeiffer.
Since the early 2000s, notably after the publication ‘Welcome Aboard, Photographs 1980-2000’ with Edition Patrick Frey, Walter Pfeiffer has also started working with international magazines, particularly in fashion, for publications such as i-D, Butt, Vogue Paris, Self Service, Fantastic Man, W, Aperture, and others, while continuing his artistic practice in photography and drawing.
In April 2026 Pfeiffer will open a major retrospective of photographic works at Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin.
