Bildhalle

Bildhalle GALLERY FOR PHOTOGRAPHY AND PHOTO BASED ART Jahrhunderts und der zeitgenössischen Fotokunst.

GALLERY FOR CLASSIC AND CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY

Bildhalle, founded by Mirjam Cavegn in 2013 and one of today’s most respected galleries for photography in Switzerland, deliberately takes on the responsibility of a long-standing Swiss tradition regarding photography and its distribution as an artistic medium. Thus, it represents outstanding classic and contemporary positions with the necessary consequence. In October 2020, Bildhalle will run a second gallery in Amsterdam, thus consolidating its good relations in the Dutch and European markets. The gallery will show a well curated selection of Dutch and international artists – both young talents and established photographers. In the interplay between selected established photographers of the 20th Century and those of a younger generation that aims to keep extending the medium, Mirjam Cavegn shapes an ambitious gallery program with the objective to positively influence the reception and recognition of artistic photography through solo and group exhibitions as well as international art fair participations and publishing high quality photo books.

„I’m interested in that point where you don’t really know what you’re looking at. We usually recognise things very quickly, and once we do, we almost stop looking. A lot of my work comes from trying to hold that moment just a little longer.“

ONOKO - BLEU SILENCE

The exhibition brings together four series: “Percept” is an exploration of emptiness as a volume in which magic unfolds – for color has always inhabited emptiness. “Bleu Nuit” visualizes the moment of withdrawal, when everything dissolves into a deep blue abyss. “Contre Nuit” explores the duality between earth and sky – the horizon where the shadow of the mountains meets the delicate pigments of the sky. The sculptural works in “Bleu de Mémoire” fossilize light as it settles into matter: light transformed into stone.

What unites all four series is their departure from figuration – not through erasure, but through transformation. As if color were returning to what it has always been: a language older than language itself. The exhibition is an invitation to see with the soul, to hear with the eyes, and to follow the sound and dance of color.

THE ARTIST DUO WILL BE PRESENT.

Onoko is the artist duo Manon Duparc and François Pain. Born in France, they met during their studies in Geneva – she studied interior architecture and design, while he studied architecture. Sharing the same sensibility on every level, they began dreaming of a joint artistic practice, which since 2017 has been devoted entirely to photography.

Manon and François press the shutter when a mood touches their soul. Already at the moment the photograph is taken, figuration dissolves, leaving behind only the relationship between color and light. Their works border on abstract impressionism. Reduced to complex color gradients, the deliberately unedited images reveal a profound sensitivity to atmosphere and composition and advocate for an imaginary world in which each image invites the viewer to expand perception.

RENÉ GROEBLI
9 OCTOBER 1927 - 5 MAY 2026

In grateful memory
With deep sorrow, we bid farewell to René Groebli, who passed away earlier today. We have lost a humorous, innovative, and tirelessly dedicated artist, human being, and friend. His gently playful charm and his unmistakable presence – consistently expressed in violet, green, red, and blue – will remain vividly in our memory. His œuvre has left a lasting mark on Swiss and international photography and will continue to hold an enduring place in its history.

On 5 May 2026, René Groebli died in his hometown of Zurich at the age of 98.

With heartfelt gratitude and remembrance

„Blue moves through the exhibition as a single body with shifting densities: electric, nocturnal, abyssal. It becomes the shared space between air and water, between the surface that trembles and the depth that presses inward — the ocean above, the ocean below. Not two places, but two states of the same silence.“
