Biography
Alfonso Fernández Acevedo

Visual Artist in Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Set Design, Illustrator, Ceramics, and Sculpture. Born in 1969 in Santiago, Chile, Fernández began his education in 1985 studying painting and drawing at the Universidad under the supervision of Professor César Osorio. In 1987, he received a grant for study at Taller 99 under the supervision of Master painter and

printmaker Nemesio Antunez. In 1992, Fernandez received a grant issued by the Culture Department from the US Embassy in Chile to participate in an international program with professional artists from Chile, Brazil, and Colombia hosted by Tamarind Institute of the University of New Mexico, U.S.A., and develop his graphic work. During his visit at Tamarind, he received a special invitation from the Department of Art and Art History at the University of New Mexico as a Guest Artist in residence in collaboration with Professor Jose Rodriguez. In 1994, he received a grant from Tamarind Institute to specialize in Professional Lithography studying the training program under Master Printer and Visual Artist Jeffrey Sippel. During 2000, he was granted an award by the Ohio Art Council as an Artist in Residence in Zygothe Press, Cleveland, Ohio. During the same year he was invited by the North American Neo-Expressionist Visual artist Sam Gilliam to collaborate together in his Washington Studio and further his art career. In 2001, Fernandez studied sculpture and ceramics, continuing in 2002 with foundry sculpture under the direction of Artist Luis Mandiola of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Chile. In 2006, Fernández was invited as an Artist in Residence to the University of Missouri, St. In 2014, he has been invited as an Artist in Residence to Paul Artspace, St. Louis, and will work in collaboration with St. Louis artist Jeff Sippel. Fernández has received a special invitation to teach as a guest professor a course in drawing at the University of Missouri. Fernández has participated in more than 100 Group and 26 Individual national and international exhibitions, including: Tuska Center for Contemporary Art, Lexington, Kentucky, USA -Visio Gallery, St. Louis Missouri, USA, Museum of Contemporary Art of Valdivia, Valdivia, Chile. Sala SAM Chilean North American Cultural Institute, Santiago, Chile. AMS Marlborough Art Gallery, Santiago, Chile. Patricia Ready Art Gallery, Santiago, Chile. US Embassy American Ambassador Residence, Santiago, Chile. Hoffman LaChance Contemporary Gallery, St. Louis, Missouri, USA. His work is represented in many national and international public and private collections.
