Hafnia Foundation Founded in 2000, Hafnia Foundation is committed to collecting and preserving art from around the globe.

Founded in 2000, the Hafnia Foundation is committed to collecting and preserving art from around the globe, with the objective of exploring cultural diversity in artistic expression. With this cultural exchange the goal then grows to promote mutual understanding across ethnic, social, and sexual boundaries. A major point of pride for the Hafnia Foundation is its ability to bring together artists w

ith different backgrounds, thus expanding the conceptual scenes that these varied artists represent. The art currently in their collection represents artists from America, China, Cyprus, Denmark, Iceland, the Netherlands, and Norway. It is composed of sculptures, paintings, and installations, both realistic and abstract, as well as an extensive collection of historical Chinese propaganda posters. Working with such a unique array of artists, in multiple formats, endows the collection with boundless energy and possibility. The intent is not to focus on one style or movement, but rather to dabble in the plethora of art that’s available in the world, to create a distinct collection that stretches across international borders.

In Hafnia, we explore the universe of Tim Chen Chuanxi, an artist who is also a professor, critic, and art historian.

His works are the perfect bridge between eras.

For Chuanxi, a complex work of art can only be born from a rich mind; each of his movements on the canvas is pure ideology and expression.

Tim Chen Chuanxi's work
Invites us to pause at the intersection of gestural calligraphy and contemporary design.

The silence necessary to appreciate this work... is the record of an unrepeatable moment, a meeting point between ancient discipline and the audacity of the avant-garde.

It is an art that is not only observed, but demands your presence.

‘Den knækkede skæve søjle’ (The Broken and Crooked Column) in Brejning Memorial Park.

Art should be the ultimate tool for crossing social and psychological boundaries.

This work is a sociological triumph, reminding us that "difference" should not be marginalized, but rather integrated and understood.

A project that began as a sketch in 2015 is now a beacon of empathy in the public space. After 11 years of work and thanks to the efforts of institutions like the Kellers Minde Museum, it demonstrates that investing in the artist's message transforms the civic fabric.

We share in this milestone and reaffirm our commitment to supporting art that compels us to look first and foremost at th

The story of Chen Wenling, brilliantly presented in the recent article by Seminal Artist Group, is a brutal and beautiful testament.

For Chen, art is born from life, but it has the obligation to rise above it.

His inspiration springs from a small, crystalline stream in his rural childhood in Fujian province.

He calls it his "mother river." It is the inexhaustible source that forever defined the spiritual and emotional aspect of all his work.

The figure represents hunger. But not just physical hunger, but a kind of sacred, untouchable, and raw vitality.

It is human innocence confronting the immensity of the natural landscape (the blue sky, the yellow sand).

In 2001, Chen did something extremely bold for the Chinese art scene: unable to find a suitable indoor space, he exhibited more than 100 monumental sculptures outdoors.

The impact was overwhelming. It was far more effective than any hermetic museum.

From that moment on, his vision changed forever; art should belong in the public sphere.

He sought direct interaction, an unfiltered encounter between the monumental work and the everyday viewer.

Contemporary art isn't meant to be subtle. It's meant to shock, unsettle, and jolt us awake.

In 2009, artist Chen Wenling presented "What You See Might Not Be Real," a monumental sculpture that captured the fury, chaos, and toxicity of the global financial crisis.

Visually, it's an explosion: a rampaging, monumental, and grotesque bull—representing the unchecked power of Wall Street—charges and pins a horned man, the infamous Bernard Madoff, to the wall.

At Hafnia Foundation, we believe that sculptures like these are time capsules that document the sociological scars of our history.

Today, we are immensely proud to share that artist Klitsa Antoniou will participate in Islands’ Rarities, an artistic-curatorial presentation taking place during the vibrant opening days of the 2026 Venice Biennale.

Through the lens of nissology (the sociological and cultural study of islands), Klitsa invites us to rethink island identities.

This exhibition, under the brilliant curatorship of Elena Posokhova, expands upon the work the artist has already cemented on prestigious platforms such as Manifesta 15 in Barcelona and the Biennale of Contemporary Art of the Mediterranean Islands.

We invite our entire global network, colleagues, and art lovers present in Venice to join Klitsa in this profound immersive experience, where history, ecology, and cultural narratives converge.

🗓️ Dates: May 7–8, 2026

🕙 Time: 10:00 – 13:00 hrs

The thread of history meets the prestige of tradition

We are mesmerized by the grand opening of "Woven Masterpieces" at Koldinghus Castle. This extraordinary exhibition of 22 works traces 550 years of artistic evolution—from the monumental visual language of power in the late Middle Ages to the existential and experimental expressions of today.

The opening was graced by the presence of H.R.H. Princess Benedikte, highlighting the profound cultural significance of this showcase.

At Hafnia Foundation, we view the tapestry as a living medium where time and storytelling converge.

It is a reminder that art remains the ultimate bridge between historical authority and the freedom of modern creativity.

In her work Since you left my Wet Embrace (2004), Klitsa Antoniou Klitsa Antoniou

Explores the intersection of memory, loss, and emotional architecture.

Through a porcelain structure that simulates an inaccessible well, the artist transforms functional vessels into walls that shelter a symbolic void, inviting us to reflect on "constructive forgetting" and the fragile boundaries between our inner worlds and the social environment.
