In the world it is said that an object is balanced if it’s not moving. In other words, in a state of physical , equilibrium, or a calm state of mind. The Principle of Moments, also referred to as Varignon's Theorem, states that a system is stable as all the forces acting on it cancel each other out. This is best exemplified by imagining a seesaw. When two forces perfectly balance each other, the plank remains still, resting in perfect symmetry. Much like Swiss sculptor ’s “Gismo” (1960), the street famous (三轮车) rejects convention, instead acting as an spectacle of absurd play. I doubt can explain the precarious balancing act that takes place upon this three wheeled , but one thing is certain, it’s an artistic creation of epic proportions! Despite having to maneuver through Fengxian Lu (奉贤路) and Taixing Lu (泰兴路) its contents always remain perfectly still and counterpoised. A of surrounding a tower of harmony. In true Dadaist practice, sanlunche have become works comprised of odd items, an irrational collection of boxes, , and the works! Now isn’t that something to smile about.

As I sit pensively by the window of my second floor in the heart of enchanting Zhejiang Zhong Lu, a gentle breeze wafts through, carrying with it the aroma of steaming meat dumplings and the distant of bells. The golden rays of the sun, filtered through a myriad of colorful awnings, cast a delightful palette upon the glass, reminiscent of spring days to come. Through this carefully curated frame, I bear witness to a symphony of urban eccentricities: the choreographed dance of pedestrians navigating the bustling , the ornate blending harmoniously with the modern , and the joyful chaos of electronics street vendors peddling their wares. This window, an exquisite portal to the vibrant world beyond, invites me to embrace the idiosyncrasies of Shanghai's kaleidoscopic tapestry. As if inspired by 's optical illusions, the window transforms into a threshold between the and the imagined, inviting me to question the nature of space and my place within this cityscape. It is within this sanctuary that I find solace, connecting with the whimsy and charm that defines this enchanting city, just like stepping into a living artwork.

I had a that I could fly from the highest , just like the figures in the paintings of . It felt so real that I couldn't shake the feeling even after waking up. The sensation of lingered in my body, and as I walked outside, I couldn't help but gaze up at the sky, wondering if maybe, just maybe, my dream was a premonition of things to come. I spent the rest of the day in a , feeling both exhilarated and unnerved by the possibility that my dream might actually hold some sort of significance. Was I wrong? philosopher , often spoke of the illusory nature of dreams, believing "Life is a dream, death is waking up." He implied that our in life are fleeting and impermanent. An illusion, a dream. He emphasized the importance of transcending these fantasies in order to connect with a more enduring reality, the Tao. Lao Tzu saw the world as being in a constant state of flux and change, with no stable or permanent . He believed that our perceptions of reality are shaped by our own , and that our experiences in life are ultimately insubstantial and ephemeral. Who knows what may come of it, but for now, I am content to live in the moment and pursue my dreams, wherever they may take me. I will fly from the highest swing!

It’s the middle of the day, on the side of Nonghao a bubblegum-haired woman enters a booth. She picks up the phone. This is the moment she’s been waiting for. " ?" she says, her voice quivering with emotion. At the other end of the line, she listens to the voice, the sound echoing through the like a steady heartbeat. It blends with the daily traffic orchestra composed of cars, sanlunche, pedestrians, and mobike travelers. They talked for hours, the sun went down, their words weaving together a never-ending tale. They spoke of and loss, dreams and desires, and the endless that lay before them. And as they talked, the woman felt something stirring inside her, a restlessness that she had been suppressing for far too long. She wanted to see the world, taste its flavors, feel its rhythms. Without a second thought, she dropped the call, let the phone fall from her fingers, left the booth, and hit the road. She didn't know where she was going, didn't have a plan or a . All she knew was that she had to go and answer the call from the open road. As the chengyu suggests, “advance bravely without hesitation!” ( #一往无前)

If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Our determines our reality and shapes the way we interpret the world around us. English Philosopher , believed the physical universe to be playful, and enchanting, “best understood by an analogy to music because music as an form is essentially playful, vibrant, and dynamic.” It can be seen as a journey toward a higher state of , transporting those who listen far beyond everyday experiences and connecting with something greater. Just as the lotus flower grows, playfully twisting and turning, emerging from murky waters into the light, so must one traverse the sometimes complicated twists and turns of life. As the chengyu goes, “a lotus flower emerges from the water” ( #芙蓉出水) as a symbol of enlightenment and . The human is filled with beauty, delights, challenges, and struggles alike. You can approach it with a hammer in hand, or with a more gentle touch. Ultimately, the choice is yours, my friend.

I read a that listed all the ways the world could end. My favorite was by rogue dead planet. You see, sometimes while a is forming it can still be a little bit out of whack, some of the fields and orbits can be off enough that one of the planets gets flung out of the solar system and off into the . There could be as big as ours, even bigger, hurdling towards us right now. Maybe some of them even had civilizations once, maybe some of them still do. It wouldn’t even have to hit us really, that would be mercy when you consider some of the other . It might pull another planet in our solar system just enough out of orbit that the whole thing goes out of whack. This could lead to the most cruel possibility of all: us being flung out of the solar system ourselves. With just enough time to know what was happening and that there was nothing we could do about it. Everything has its own little gravitational pull and you never know what will pull what in which .

Anywhere you might meet a say hello to it! Maybe raise a flag so that others can see it from beyond the curve that separates your small patch of from so many others. In every direction you look and see a horizon line you can wonder if there might be someone the perfect distance away in that direction that your horizon line is theirs, just from the opposite side. The strangest thing about the horizon all around you is it stays the same distance away. You’ll move around your whole life in the same approximate bubble of visible land, never knowing for certain what’s on the other side of any particular one. Could be true love or disaster, fame or fiery death. Maybe someone who would’ve been your best friend is just beyond where you can see, lazily floating and paddling around, waiting for you to come watch and then introduce yourself. Maybe you can explain why people do what they do all around the world and throughout all of time, they really just want to what’s over the next hill.

And I you as I love the that brings you out of the in which you come and go. -Wendell Berry
The dance was . An exuberant display of colorful feathers, fancy footwear, and gorgeous colors resulting in quite the engaging courtship. In Central American forests, the male Red-capped Manakin puts on a grand show all to catch the eye of a female with exceptionally high standards. Perched on branches, these red feathered birds shuffle and twist rapidly, forwards and backwards across trees, akin to a speedy moonwalk. It may seem like an unusual courting method and yet female birds succumb to the sensual ritual.
I wonder what would be the human version of a mating dance. At first glance, a vibrant color appears necessary (after all humans tend to be quite distracted creatures!). Intricate arm movements, charming twists, and of course jumps for an enticing call sure to woo partners alike!
On second thought, love is as is without asking someone to jump through hoops to get to me.

Upon seeing his reflection for the first time, fell in love and died staring at himself, in his place sprouted a white flower. Natural pools of were our first mirrors, eventually evolving to the metal covered glass structures we know today. The use of mirrors, reflections, and distortions, has always been popular with artists worldwide, as well as with curious individuals in their attempt to craft transitional narratives around perceptions of the self and the world around. In 1961 Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto created his most iconic works yet. Quadri specchianti or “mirror paintings”, consisted of paintings of close friends and family applied to sheets of reflective stainless steel. Hanged off the walls, audiences would find themselves “inside” these rectangular encounters, resulting in the ultimate creative ! Just four years later, Japanese artist presented the first of many Infinity Mirror Rooms, known as Phalli’s Field (1965). Simply a small room with four mirrored walls creating the illusion of endless space, disorienting and transporting participants into a transcendental void. It turned out it’s also a great place to snap a photo, as a matter of fact cab rearview make great photo ops as well. While we’re fleeing from Taikoo Shing why don’t you raise your camera and take a quick selfie with me?

I find myself captivated by the activities of my neighbors. It’s a fascination that borders , I find myself eagerly awaiting the moments when they appear in my line of sight. There’s the grocery shop lady across the way, who always starts the day early at the crack of dawn ready to feed all sorts of folks. There’s the cook, a magician of the mouth, taking his daily smoking break outside. I’ve noticed he also finds amusement in the act of people-watching. And then there was the mysterious redheaded girl who lived directly opposite my window. She’s the one who fascinates me the most. She seemed to have no routine, no discernible purpose for leaving the apartment. Sometimes she would stand by the window, looking out at the city below. Other times she would pace back and forth, deep in thought. Her daily routine was a curious delight! I was lost in her mystery. In , there’s the phenomenon of entanglement, where two particles become correlated in such a way that the state of one particle depends on the state of the other, even if they are separated by large distances. In other words, entanglement allows particles to communicate instantaneously with each other, without any apparent physical connection between them!
You can call it , or you can call it . Either way, I’m completely smitten! While there is a distance between us, I’m content to simply observe and revel in the mysterious beauty of the world around me.

When we look up and see the vast blue sky or go swimming in the dark blue ocean, we forget is the rarest color in nature. There are a few flowers like lilies, morning glories, and poppies but blue roses do not exist. That is unless we’re talking about “The Legend of The Blue Rose” (公主与蓝玫瑰). In , an emperor’s daughter was to be married soon, her father allowed one stipulation for her suitors. Her request was simple, she would marry the man who could bring her a single . The first man paid a florist for a painted rose, however when the princess held it, paint dripped on her hands. Another man carved a rose out of sapphire. Offended, the princess replied she wouldn’t marry a man whose heart was as cold as the stone. Next, a man asked a wizard to craft him a blue rose. The princess was presented a wooden box containing what looked like a pristine blue rose. When she reached inside her hand passed through it, it was a mere illusion. Angrily she rejected this suitor as she couldn’t marry someone so deceitful. Disheartened by the outcome she retreated to the garden where she met with the gardener’s son. They trusted one another and he was dear in her heart, she wished she could him. The next morning, he presented the princess with a single white rose. The room rapidly filled with whispers and shock. The princess held its petals and declared, “this is a blue rose”. The emperor gave his blessing for if her daughter said it, then so it must be. The couple lived happily until the end of their days painting colorful flowers everywhere they went.

Perhaps blue roses are not as rare as we think.

's cat was both alive and dead as long as nobody opened the box, and it was the very act of opening and looking inside said box that made the cat either dead or alive. Although a question, its more philosophical counterpart raises similar queries. If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound? Is there correlation between and ? Philosopher summarizes the concept of being with three Latin words, “cogito ergo sum”, or most famously known as “I think therefore I am”. He deduced that the act of thinking about one’s existence was enough evidence to prove that you exist! Is your head spinning in circles yet? My point being, there are literally billions of people playing out stories in their own little box that you’ll never know about. Billions exist without you knowing, and although you do exist here reading these words, you also don’t exist to billions of people. You are both dead and alive at the same time, just like a curious cat in front of a moving image.
