โ€œPainting is very similar to dancing, but instead of moving to sound frequencies you are dancing with frequencies of colour, texture, rhythm, surface, space and densities of shape and form. Opening tonight at Gathering Ibiza: ๐˜™๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ

๐˜™๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ, a two-person exhibition with works by Ivรกn Estrada and Garth Evans, opens this evening in Ibiza. Both Estrada and Evans share a commitment to experimentation with new materials, resulting in sculptures that examine established boundaries and challenge the limits of transformation.

Ivรกn Estradaโ€™s large-scale sculpture, ๐˜š๐˜ฐ๐˜ฃ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ฏ๐˜ง๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ฐ (๐˜”๐˜ฐ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ช๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ #6), bisects the gallery space, showcasing the artistโ€™s ability to balance tension with a sense of movement. Made of rusted and welded carbon steel, the new sculpture was made this year during Gatheringโ€™s artist residency, using Estradaโ€™s intersecting knowledge of industrial materials and traditional craftsmanship.

๐˜Ž๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ ๐˜Œ๐˜ท๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ด: ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ˆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ช-๐˜๐˜ช๐˜ณ๐˜ถ๐˜ด ๐˜š๐˜ค๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ฑ๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด opens today at Leeds Art Gallery: the first solo exhibition dedicated to the artistโ€™s ongoing series of small-scale plaster sculptures. The exhibition launches Leeds Art Galleryโ€™s Summer of Sculpture, a programme showcasing some of sculptureโ€™s visionaries and celebrating the rich history of the medium in the region.

Evans began the Anti-Virus Sculptures during the first Covid lockdown at his home in Connecticut, USA. The series was founded out of a desire to protect himself and others from the threat and anxieties of the pandemic, creating an โ€˜army of sculpturesโ€™. The works combine the man-made with the organic, extending Evansโ€™s lifelong exploration of form and its limits.

Wynnie Mynervaโ€™s solo exhibition with Sociรฉtรฉ is currently on view in Berlin.

๐˜๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ๐˜ณรฉ ๐˜บ ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ณรฉ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด emerges from three concerns: the violence in the Middle East, the global construction of Berlin as an icon of โ€œsexual liberationโ€ and the artistโ€™s own process of migration and legalization in Europe. Faced with the coldness of war, the persecution of migrants and the ongoing erasure of alterity, an urgent question emerges: what forces resist?

In the 2025 video work ๐˜—๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ข๐˜ญ ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ช๐˜น, artist Christelle Oyiri draws on her parallel career as a DJ to approach physical and digital processes of bodily augmentation. She isolates, manipulates and recontextualises elements, using tools associated with electronic music.

Extracting, cutting, splicing, looping; in ๐˜—๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ข๐˜ญ ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ช๐˜น, Oyiri demonstrates the ways these strategies are applied to both sound and flesh. In one sequence, hands on a turntable share a split screen with bodily matter being excised, sewn and slit by gloved fingers, sped up to match the stuttering pace of the footwork accompaniment. Pokemon, Blac Chyna, Labi Siffre and Jean Baudrillard become stems, the clusters of instruments and sounds that make up a song.

Gathering Ibiza will reopen this Saturday with ๐˜™๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ, an exhibition featuring works by Ivan Estrada and Garth Evans.

๐˜™๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ will emphasise the experimental side of Evansโ€™s drawing practice, seen in the work ๐˜œ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ ๐˜“๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ ๐˜‹๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ธ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ, 4. The drawing showcases the artistโ€™s imaginative commitment to geometric and asymmetrical forms.

Works on paper and board will be exhibited alongside sculpture composed between 1987โ€“2013, demonstrating a move from angular works using materials such as glass fiber, towards more organic shapes found in his ๐˜’๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ต series.

Tai Shaniโ€™s sculpture, ๐˜š๐˜บ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ค ๐˜๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ, is now permanently on view at Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge. ๐˜š๐˜บ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ค ๐˜๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ acts as a commemoration to Wysingโ€™s previous Director Donna Lynas (1967-2021), bearing the inscription โ€˜eternal symphony of survivalโ€™. The work was unveiled in Wysingโ€™s newly-refurbished reception in April, alongside works by Hannan Jones, Shamica Ruddock and Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom.

โ€œMy relationship with Wysing has been one of the most formative of my practice. When Donna Lynas invited me to do a residency there, it was the first time Iโ€™d had seven uninterrupted weeks to just apply myself fully to my work โ€” and it genuinely changed the trajectory of everything that followed. Donna was an extraordinary person who had a rare and profound understanding of how to be with artists, how to give them what they need at the right time, this is something many artists would say about her. That contribution, that particular quality of attention and care, lives on in Wysing. To be asked to make a permanent work in commemoration of her and of that legacy is among the greatest honours of my life.โ€ โ€“ Tai Shani
