ARTWORK SPOTLIGHT

‘Picnic in Tempel Rock’ by

At this picnic near the old airport, red wine accompanied our chess game. Do we use childhood books to outmaneuver the knight, or wonder what wish the fortune teller might grant? Someone carried a Northern lullaby wound around a black cat, while another brought the key to a dream house on some magical island. These fragments from distant corners of the world weave together into a personal, tangled story waiting to unfold.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT // Michel Niknafs

Michel Niknafs (Berlin, 1989) is a club owner, entrepreneur, and multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores social issues, particularly urban space appropriation and its accompanying social dynamics. Central to his work is the movement of guests within space: how they enter, traverse, and exit environments. Niknafs treats space not as passive backdrop but as an active participant in dialogue with people. Using mirrors, thread, and concrete, he creates deliberate contrasts that challenge perception and invite both literal and metaphorical reflection. The interactive dimension is essential, referencing collective experiences found in club contexts that are direct alongside physical and fleeting. Dynamics paired with rhythm serve as guiding motifs throughout his work, driven by his search for authentic moments of being.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT // Pepita Glück

Pepita Glück (Spain,1981) is a self-taught painter based in Kreuzberg. Her work draws from Fauvism and Dutch still life traditions, using bold color and playful forms to explore feminine identity through ritualistic practices and objects with emotional significance. Trained in Medicine before fully committing to art, she brings both precision and intuition to her practice. For over four years, she’s been part of a local art collective and has exhibited across Berlin, including curated markets like BAAM and HAAM. Her paintings are surreal still lifes that act as quiet declarations -embassies of intimacy and contradiction- between languages and systems.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT // Superfly 1.3%
3

Superfly 1.3% (b. 1977, Virginia) has been based in Berlin since 1999. With over twenty-five years of experience, his practice merges technical precision with a poetic vision, using rope, textiles, and organic materials as both medium and metaphor. Drawing from the structural and meditative traditions of macramé, his installations explore themes of suspension, trust, and release.

Working with h**p rope, antler, leather, and vivid red fabric, he creates environments where the body, or its echo, becomes part of a sculptural dialogue. His long-standing experience in roping and suspension informs a meticulous process centered on safety, consent, and care, allowing intimacy and vulnerability to emerge within a framework of trust.

For Superfly 1.3%, rope is a primal technology that becomes a language for exploring freedom, boundaries, and transcendence. His installations are not meant to restrain but to connect, inviting contemplation and meditative stillness. Deeply shaped by Berlin’s layered histories and cultural collisions, his work opens a reflective space where viewers can reconsider their relationship to control, vulnerability, and release.

ARTWORK SPOTLIGHT

‘Rose’ by

Rose presents a figure suspended between confusion and hope, embodying the contemporary condition of abundance shadowed by potential loss. The subject captures collective yearning for transformation while remaining concealed within contemplative isolation, waiting for external catalysts.

The work poses a fundamental question: can meaningful change emerge from passive expectation? The central rose, wilted yet vibrant, becomes a metaphor for hope’s endurance amid stagnation. This duality manifests throughout the painting’s deliberate structural division.

The upper register employs gestural, turbulent brushwork visualizing psychological discord. Below, precise linear elements and geometric forms establish visual order, representing clarity and resolution. A singular line traverses the composition, functioning as both formal device and symbolic pathway toward enlightenment.

This connecting element suggests transformation requires active engagement rather than anticipation. The work proposes that moments of clarity emerge from chaos through conscious choice, bridging the divide between uncertainty and understanding.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT // Moritz Kloppe

Moritz Kloppe (Wiesbaden, 1994) is a Berlin-based painter primarily working in oil. With a background in medicine and a completed medical degree in 2021, his practice explores the body as both anatomical structure and vessel of emotional, psychological, and social meaning. Engaging themes of identity, vulnerability, and transformation, Kloppe positions the human figure at the center of a nuanced, materially sensitive inquiry into embodiment. Informed by the fluid dynamics of Berlin’s club culture, his gestural compositions draw on lived, often intimate experiences. Through a process of distortion and abstraction, Kloppe dissolves anatomical clarity to reveal deeper emotional and somatic states. His work has been exhibited in group shows across Germany and France, and is held in private collections internationally.

ARTWORK SPOTLIGHT

‘YARA – STRENGTH IN DELICACY’ by

Yara is part of a series of hand-tufted textile works translating emotional and intuitive states into physical forms. Each piece begins with AI-generated abstract, feeling-driven images, which are then reinterpreted by hand using materials like wool, silk, cotton, and mirrors. These materials add softness, depth, and reflection, inviting a layered interaction between self-perception, space, and image. Rooted in hybrid identity, the works explore the coexistence and transformation of digital and physical realities, addressing life between cultures, languages, and systems. They symbolize porous thresholds rather than fixed borders, questioning notions of belonging and visibility. Guided by emotional logic, the pieces resist fixed narratives and embrace multiplicity. Within the Art Embassy, they act as fragments of inner territories, representing fluid identity and potential transformation, where softness becomes a political gesture of openness.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT // Nicolas Lawin

Nicolas Lawin (Germany,1990) is a contemporary artist who specializes in tape art.He has been part of the Berlin-based artist collective „Tape That“ since 2013. However, after completing his studies in communication design and working as a designer, he quickly realized that traditional graphic design was not his calling. The strict world of corporate identities did not fit in with his idea of creativity. Just as his passion did not fit into the world of advertising, the medium of adhesive tape did not initially seem to fit into the world of art either. The challenge of making adhesive tape look like painting was the beginning of his artistic work. His first artworks were in a comic style and the tape could only be recognized as such on very close inspection. Over time, digital work with design programs influenced his artwork more and more and the graphic language, which corresponds more to the aesthetics of strips of adhesive tape, increasingly found its way into his analog artworks. Be it in the creation of portraits, three-dimensional black and white hatchings or in the design of plotter graphics.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT // Sebastian Ulm

Sebastian Ulm (Luxembourg City,1985) lives and works in Berlin. His artistic practice explores questions of belonging, displacement, and self-location. Emerging from early work in street art and guerrilla interventions, he has developed a site-specific approach that deliberately uses public space as a stage for commentary and presence.

Shaped by frequent relocations during childhood and a biographical tension between origin and arrival, Sebastian’s work probes the fragility of home as both physical space and emotional refuge. His long-standing involvement in homelessness advocacy deepens his engagement with themes such as displacement, visibility, and urban marginalization.

ARTWORK SPOTLIGHT

‘A VERY FRAGILE SYSTEM NO. 2’ by

A Very Fragile System series represents the construction of an inner world: a personal system built from chaos toward order. The work begins with a circle, a recurring motif that initiates each piece in the series. Created through architectural construction techniques, the collage process is intuitive yet structured, reflecting the artist’s constant effort to balance emotional and intellectual patterns. The use of blueprints introduces themes of planning and precision, while the act of cutting and assembling disrupts that order, revealing the fragility of imposed structures. This work invites the viewer to consider the tension between control and vulnerability, and how personal realities are shaped through the interplay of these forces. It contributes to themes of visibility and transformation, offering an abstract but deeply emotional response to the need for coherence in fragmented inner landscapes.
