Thank you to for their feature on Matthias Arndt (.arndt) co-founder of Arndt Art Agency!

The interview discusses how after two decades shaping the art world through his gallery, Arndt & Partner ( 1994–2017), he stepped back to see it differently. What followed reshaped everything, from how he collects to how he lives, and led to the creation of the ARNDT Collection ().

"From Berlin to a new sanctuary taking shape in Athens, the art world insider reveals how stepping away from gallery life to build an agency allowed him to love art entirely on his own terms. Together with his wife, Tiffany, he’s built a collection guided by love, curiosity, and a belief in art’s power to transform how we see."

We share impressions of Matthias Arndt's recent visit to Kassel for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of documenta ( ), the world’s most significant art exhibition, initiated in 1955.

Its founder, the German architect, painter, and curator Arnold Bode (1900–1977), intended—and succeeded—to reboot the contemporary art discourse that had been interrupted since the 1930s by fascism and war. His goal was to bring international art back to West Germany. Since then, documenta, held every five years, has hosted many groundbreaking exhibitions.

Arndt was honoured to be invited to join the International Friends of documenta to support this major institution. Having visited every iteration since 1982, he had the privilege to work for documenta IX in 1992 as a trainee and tour guide, later taking on the role of Director of Visitor Services for documenta X, curated by Catherine David.

We are excited about the upcoming 16th edition of documenta, curated by Naomi Beckwith, currently the Deputy Director and Chief Curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum ().

As Naomi Beckwith noted in a conversation with three former curators—Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Roger Buergel, and Adam Szymczyk—documenta remains the only art exhibition and platform in the world that allows a curator such a profound level of inquiry: questioning the role of curating itself, and rethinking all previous exhibition formats.

Beckwith suggests that “we should think rather about values—about dialogue and understanding—established through an exhibition, rather than just going to the next most exotic location or chasing the next trend…”

documenta 16 will take place in Kassel, Germany, from June 12 to September 19, 2027.

AAA RECOMMENDS: Tomás Saraceno's () first permanent public artwork in Australia commissioned for the Parkline Place building above Gadigal Station in Sydney curated by Barbara Flynn ().

“An artwork that drifts along the rivers of the wind, suspended like stars and planets carrying constellations of life’s seeds through the universe. Together in diverse latent states of encounter, the artwork attempts to remind us that we are all on-board this Mother Earth. Together with spores, spiders, birds, eucalyptus trees, can humans also float freely, without lithium or fossil fuels? In the interest of the trillions of inhabitants who would like to keep journeying around the sun, might we choose orbits of solidarity over extraction?”
—Tomás Saraceno

Suspended like seeds adrift on atmospheric currents, The Seeds of Flight is installed in the triple-height lobby of Parkline Place, above Sydney’s Gadigal Station This monumental installation spans 18 meters in height and 38 meters in length. Fifteen flying sculptures, composed of 116 tetrahedrons made of cotton fabric like those used for sails, and suspended on carbon frames connected by aluminum nodes, float in mid-air—echoing the artist’s long-standing interest in alternative flight methods and multispecies co-existence.

Drawing its palette from the eucalyptus tree, the work shifts color throughout the day, attuning to the rhythms of light and atmosphere. Conceived as a call to reimagine our entanglement with air, The Seeds of Flight invites tenants, visitors, and passersby to contemplate solidarities beyond extraction—between spores, spiders, humans, and wind.

Amongst the artworks, the Agency has had the privilege to recently place are these three spectacular paintings by Australian First Nations artists, Sally Gabori and Zaachariaha Fielding .art on view in their new permanent home in Germany.

Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori (1924 - 2015) Gabori was a senior Kaiadilt artist who is acknowledged as one of Australia’s pre-eminent contemporary artists. Although Gabori’s paintings may be perceived as pure abstraction, her practice was inherently referential, with paintings depicting topographical reference points, places, physical features and totems with deep significance to the artist and her family. Her pieces resonate with the colours and textures of Kaiadilt country and the intensity and complexities of her history and memories.

Zaachariaha Fielding (born 1991) comes from a strong family lineage of artists and storytellers. His energetic and visceral paintings exist as contemporary works whilst acknowledging and honouring the visual language of his culture. The works incorporate traditional Anangu children’s lullabies, transforming them into patterns on canvas. The textures of these pieces resonate with music, featuring bright colors and themes of a hopeful future.

AAA RECOMMENDS: STOA169 ( ) — a visionary project initiated and brought to life by the German artist Bernd Zimmer.

This extraordinary outdoor sculpture installation consists of 121 columns, each created by a different artist from around the world, spread across a 1,600-square-meter area.

Bernd Zimmer ( b. 1948) first conceived the idea in 1990 during a journey through South India. He was deeply inspired by the majestic porticoes of Hindu temples, where each column is individually crafted — a vision that ultimately gave rise to STOA169.

Set in the Bavarian countryside, 50 km south of Munich, Zimmer has created a powerful monument to cross-cultural artistic and philosophical dialogue. Here, individual artistic visions from all five continents come together in a collaborative effort, forming the symbolic pillars of a shared “roof of humanity.”

Thank you so much to Matthias Arndt (.arndt) for your impressions from your recent visit to this inspiring installation in nature led by Nina (.nina ) and Bernd Zimmer on a private tour.

When in London Matthias Arndt (.arndt) always makes time to visit to the Gilbert & George Centre (). The current exhibition DEATH HOPE LIFE FEAR, brings together 18 key works from 1984 to 1998, including their iconic four-panel piece of the same name on loan from Tate. The show explores themes of identity, morality, and the emotional tensions of contemporary life - testament to their audience-embracing approach of “Art For All.”

Matthias had the pleasure of visiting Gilbert & George in their studio - catching up and discussing future projects as they continue a long lasting collaboration spanning almost two decades.

We are excited about their upcoming presentation "Gilbert & George: The Twenty First Century Pictures" at the Hayward Gallery (.gallery) opening later this year.
