Heute jährt sich der Todestag von Enrico Caruso zum 104. Mal. Die Caruso Kronenboden Sammlung, ein künstlerisches Rechercheprojekt von Karen Stuke, widmet ihm jedes Jahr an seinem Geburtstag und Todestag eine besondere Aktion – sei es eine Spende, ein Grammophon-Konzert, die Benennung eines Sterns nach ihm oder andere kreative Ideen. www.carusosingsagain.com

In diesem Jahr wurde passend zum 104. Todestag eine Spende von 104,00 € an das Christoph Schlingensiefs Operndorf in Afrika überwiesen. Ich hoffe, dass diese Geste im Sinne von Caruso und auch von Schlingensief ist.

Das Operndorf Afrika versteht sich als ein globales Kunstprojekt mit der Vision, Kunst wieder mitten im Leben zu verankern. Der Begriff „Oper“ steht dabei für eine verbindende Kunstform, die emotionale, politische und gesellschaftsverändernde Qualitäten besitzt.

Today marks the 104th anniversary of Enrico Caruso's death. The Caruso Kronenboden Collection, an artistic research project by Karen Stuke, dedicates a special event to him every year on his birthday and death anniversary – be it a donation, a gramophone concert, naming a star after him or other creative ideas. This year, in keeping with the 104th anniversary of his death, a donation of €104.00 was made to Christoph Schlingensief's Opera Village in Africa. I hope that this gesture is in keeping with the spirit of Caruso and Schlingensief.

The Opera Village Africa sees itself as a global art project with the vision of anchoring art back in the centre of life. A Beauty Odyssey, featuring works in photography and film by Elina Brotherus, Marta Michalowska and Rosaliina Paavilainen opened on Saturday 25 January 2025 at 6pm .

A Beauty Odyssey brings together works in photography and film by three artists – Elina Brotherus, Marta Michalowska and Rosaliina Paavilainen. The exhibition includes two bodies of work by Elina and Marta made during their recent trip to Oman, where they photographed and performed in each other’s images set within monumental mountainous landscapes both awe-inspiring and troubling, alien and familiar, unmoved yet shaped by human cultures ancient and contemporary. While Rosaliina presents her simultaneously playful and unsettling short film that lends the exhibition its title – A Beauty Odyssey. Completed in 2024, the film looks at the brutality of beauty rituals violently shaping the body of the protagonist, performed by the artist, to freeze in time her youthful appearance.
