Li Yi-Fan (*1989, Taiwan) holds a master’s degree in new media art from the National Taipei University of the Arts. Currently, he is an artist-in-residence at the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam. Li Yi-Fan has received notable art awards, including the Visual Arts Award at the 20th Taishin Arts Award (2022) and the Kaohsiung Award (2020), among others. Having already presented his work „What Is Your Favorite Primitive“ at the in 2025, we are delighted to continue this collaboration in the context of his international exhibition in Venice.

In „occasional lovers“, Brett Charles Seiler transcribes the tensions of noncommittal encounters. Figuring a succession of visitors to his studio in large-scale compositions and smaller studies, his ‘midday, midnight, and morning-after’ paintings have about them a sense of disquiet. Where his early works showed moments of shared intimacy and lust, the characters now appear distracted and dejected, their expressions deadpan. There is something unsettling about the word ‘occasional’, the artist suggests. ‘There are secrets and shadows, there is shame.’ (…)

We asked Igor Hosnedl about the idea behind the exhibition title:
„I wanted a soft, gentle title full of emotions. It is related to the fragility of childhood, relationships and the size of the unknown universe in contrast to the size of our own emotions here on earth. Over time, art has become a means of expressing myself through a very intimate environment. I describe my own emotions a lot and through them my own personal life. I am happy for this, I have created such a safe place for myself where I can hide or offer it to others. Milky Way is a journey and the arms of home at the same time.“

With „Ansichten über einen Raum 1983 – 1990 (Views of a space)“, the gallery’s own history is the focus of an exhibition for the first time. We are showcasing unique printed exhibition posters, photos, videos and exhibition documentation from the gallery’s archives, dating from the early years up to 1990 - conveying a vivid portrait of those formative years.

One artist who exhibited at Galerie EIGEN + ART as early as the 1980s is the Leipzig-based photographer . In 1987, she showed the series „Begegnungen in Ateliers (Encounters in Studios)“ in her solo exhibition, which are also part of this exhibition.

In occasion of the show a has been published which includes selected interviews by conducted with Gerd Harry Lybke / from 2014 to 2023, as well as a conversation with .hannemann and - plus images and more from the gallery’s archive:
