We warmly welcome Sylvia Griffin as Artist in Residence at Künstlerhof Frohnau in May 2026 and look forward to the artistic process that will emerge during her time here.
During her residency at Künstlerhof Frohnau, Sylvia Griffin continues her research into the histories embedded in specific sites. Her focus lies on the nearby former border landscape, including the watchtower and the course of the Berlin Wall just 500 metres from KHF.
Under the working title The Scars of Division, her project reflects on the lasting traces of geopolitical separation and the impact of “othering” on civilians.
Griffin develops her work on site through material-based processes: silicone impressions from the landscape, later cast in bronze, alongside cyanotype prints on paper and fabric. She also works with plant-based dyes and pigments, incorporating regrown vegetation into textile installations.

Während ihres Aufenthalts am Künstlerhof Frohnau setzt Sylvia Griffin ihre künstlerische Forschung zu ortsspezifischen Geschichten fort. Im Fokus steht die nahegelegene ehemalige Grenzlandschaft – insbesondere der Wachturm und der Verlauf der Berliner Mauer, nur 500 Meter vom KHF entfernt.
Unter dem Arbeitstitel The Scars of Division reflektiert ihr Projekt die Spuren geopolitischer Trennung und die Auswirkungen von „Othering“ auf Menschen, die als dem „falschen“ System zugehörig markiert wurden.
Ihre Arbeiten entstehen vor Ort in materialbasierten Prozessen: Silikonabdrücke der Umgebung, die später in Bronze gegossen werden, sowie Cyanotypien auf Papier und Stoff. Ergänzend arbeitet sie mit pflanzenbasierten Farbstoffen und integriert die wiedergewachsene Vegetation in textile Installationen.
