A closer look at Simon Schubert.
Through a multifaceted exploration of architectural precision, plasticity, and meticulous geometric interlocking, combined with a subtle sensitivity to the interplay of light and shadow, Simon Schubert creates atmospheric visual worlds that oscillate between a clear spatial order and a seemingly melancholic surrealism.
In his works, Simon Schubert explores the multifaceted dimensions of space through the use of various materials, structures, and textures. Thus, imaginary visual spaces are transformed into the multidimensional forms of an image carrier or spatial structure through paper folding, graphite works, and spatial installations. In doing so, the artist creates a space for imagination, reflection, and isolation— both in the sense of spiritual introspection and as an illusory architectural study of space.
The dialogue inherent in the work addressing spheres of dissolution, absence, and illusory aesthetics, forms just as fundamental a component of the art as the profound examination of spatially related reality and a cross-genre treatment of the material. Schubert combines creative elements in a contrasting manner, creating spaces that oscillate between two- and three-dimensionality - between reality and imagination - and invite the viewer on in-depth expeditions into both, the inner and outer worlds.
