Anna-Christin Haas, Creative Director of Galvan, and artist Alicja Kwade explore material at its most essential, approaching it from different disciplines. Haas works on the body. At Galvan, she uses clean lines, precise cuts, and fabric tension to sculpt and reinforce silhouette, with nothing distracting from the essential. Kwade investigates the honesty of elemental materials, transforming them through processes such as electroplating, oxidation, slicing, and mirroring. Her interventions alter surface and perception while preserving an object’s essential identity.

Through ongoing dialogue facilitated by art curator Anna Deilmann, their exchange crystallised around a shared fascination with galvanisation as a process that strengthens an object while allowing its identity to remain intact.

Kwade’s work Atropa Belladonna (Emergency Pill), 2014, a gold electroplated Atropa belladonna berry, became a central reference. A fragile object made enduring, it encapsulated the conceptual tension within their shared dialogue of preservation and transformation, and helped shape the design direction for „A Space for a Secret” that followed.

ALICJA KWADE X GALVAN

London-based fashion brand Galvan and Berlin-based artist Alicja Kwade have unveiled a design collaboration during Paris Fashion Week. Entitled “A Space for a Secret,” the Alicja Kwade capsule collection features a limited edition of jewellery and ready-to-wear pieces, presented alongside Galvan‘s Spring Summer 2026 collection, which is inspired by the capsule’s theme and Kwade’s work.

All of the eight pieces in the capsule collection were designed by Alicja Kwade and Galvan Creative Director Anna-Christin Haas, based on Kwade’s 2012 edition “Entropy” – a real Atropa Belladonna berry electroplated in gold – reflecting her lifelong fascination with the process of galvanisation as a kind of alchemical transformation of materials, meaning the preservation of objects as a frozen moment in time. The capsule collection stems from a creative dialogue between Haas and Kwade that expands into wider themes such as witchcraft, power, perception, time, beauty, healing, and poisoning.

The project was developed under the curatorial guidance of art consultant Anna Deilmann.

Europe today faces an unprecedented energy crisis, in which environmental goals collide with urgent political priorities. As Europe begins to restart coal-fired power plants and nuclear reactors, Controlled Burn confronts our alienation from the materials, processes, and infrastructures that make the continuous flow of energy possible.

In this exhibition, fires that usually burn out of sight—underground, beyond the city limits, in distant pasts, and warming futures—are brought to light.

Julian Charrière’s work addresses urgent ecological concerns, often stemming from fieldwork at signal locations such as volcanoes, glaciers, undersea, and radioactive zones. Deepening his reflections upon ideas of nature and our place therein, Controlled Burn interrogates the dark vitality of materials used for fuel: coal, petroleum, palm oil, sunshine, and more.

Charrière’s speculative visions range over the fossilized life-worlds of past geological ages, as well as atmospheres saturated with the burnt residues of modernity’s excess. Controlled Burn questions humankind’s fraught grip on fire and the agency of plants in shaping planetary futures.

Powered by solar energy harvested by the site-specific ensemble Drain the Swamp (2022), located directly in front of the museum, the exhibition takes place throughout the Langen Foundation building and surroundings. Controlled Burn debuts a suite of ambitious commissioned artworks, set within a constellation of key pieces from Charrière’s oeuvre. It is the artist’s most extensive exhibition to date. Addressing the entanglement of environmental and geopolitical issues, it also features installations that allude to the Insel Hombroich’s prior use as a NATO rocket storage facility.

Personal conversations with people suffering from violence, war and crimes in general are the x of the work of Doris Salcedo. All of her projects begin with a long research period.

The overall structure of the exhibition is augmented by a sound work of intermittent, incoherent words and fragments. They are reminiscent of station announcements and evoke associations of an abandoned suburban train station. Extended pauses fragment the acoustic connection – where are we? How did we get here?

Felix Kiessling creates real-time encounters with a fleeting present that belongs to the past in the next moment. The alienation between urbanity and natural forces and the rationality of consumption dissipate for a moment in his works. The spatial and temporal dimensions of the installation exceed our imagination, momentarily causing us to lose our cognitive balance. The artist has also committed himself to losing control. A gut feeling remains, but the solution is open.

How an artist brings the the "world" - it's movements, sounds, natural forces and other phenomena into an exhibition space in real time and thus makes them perceptible to us.

DM me for more info about Felix Kiessling and his work.

In his phenomenological works, Kiessling translates into kinetic sculptures the physical and cosmological powers that we are unable to experience and yet are, nevertheless, an intrinsic condition of life.

Seismisches Schlagzeug (Seismic Drums) drums real-time seismic data onto the wall with drumsticks carved from oak branches. Driven by a multiphase motor and linked to a seismic map of the Earth's interior, the drumsticks reproduce the world's rhythm.

Schmetterling (Motorbike) translates the electrostatic tension of global lightning strikes in real-time: each time lightning hits the earth somewhere in the world, the lights flicker. Kiessling restores nature, exploited by our consumer society, back to its original form by merging the humanly created with the natural pattern.

A self-playing contrabass becomes an echo box of the world in Schumann Waves. In real time, the strings murmur and fine-tune the Schumann low frequency as if played by a ghostly hand. The phenomenon refers to the electromagnetic wave of the Earth's surface that lies beyond the spectrum of human perception. Kiessling translates the sounds into our auditory frequency and makes them accessible to our imaginative power in real time.

The whispering, flickering and knocking of the world fades, and a bar appears in the darkness. We have arrived at the objectivity of the everyday sphere, yet the bar is abandoned. Again, there is the feeling of an abrupt departure, a post-apocalyptic witnessing without knowing or being able to recognise what has happened in this place. We understand, but in fact we cannot. A social moment without sociality. The bar invites the viewers in, to approach and come momentarily into contact.

Kiessling makes the actual substance of the world visible through defamiliarisation, the deformation of social and physical molecules. In Die Liebenden (The Lovers), two schnapps bottles deformed by heat interact; their contact is a snapshot of haphazardness. surprisingly tender; they support each other in their dizziness.
