In IN SCHICHTEN ist Schichtung materielle und soziale Ablagerung. Geschichte erscheint als Verdichtung institutioneller Ordnungen und Bewegungsbahnen. Spiegelungen, Faltungen und Dopplungen lenken den Blick auf das Bild als Gefüge, auf seine Ränder, seine blinden Flecken und Wiederholungen. Zeit zeigt sich in Routine, in der fortlaufenden Ordnung von Aufgaben und in der Spur im Material. Orte sind Konstellationen heterogener Trajektorien, deren Zusammenkommen eine Gegenwart bildet.

In IN SCHICHTEN, stratification is material and social accretion. History appears as a compression of institutional configurations and pathways of movement. Reflections, folds, and doublings draw attention to the image as an arrangement, to its edges, its blind spots, and its repetitions. Time becomes apparent in routine, in the ongoing ordering of tasks, and in material trace. Places are constellations of heterogeneous trajectories whose convergence forms a present.

DREAMS:WORK

Den Moment, in dem man einschläft, hat man immer schon verpasst. Man verschläft ihn,
ganz buchstäblich. Es ist ein Logikproblem - denn selbst wenn man ganz bewusst auf den
Moment hinarbeitet (weil man, zum Beispiel, Atemtechniken anwendet oder „Schäfchen
zählt“), ist das Einschlafen selbst etwas, das man nicht bewusst wahrnehmen kann. Das
liegt in seiner Natur - denn es ist ja eben die andere Seite, nach der man sucht - und von
der es einem manchmal schwer fällt, sie zu erreichen.

You always miss the moment when you fall asleep. You literally sleep through it. It’s a
logical problem—because even if you consciously work toward that moment (by using
breathing techniques or counting sheep, for example), falling asleep itself is something
you can’t consciously perceive. That is in its nature—because it is precisely the other side
of consciousness that you are looking for—and which is sometimes difficult to reach.

Group exhibition with Lizzy Ellbrück, Sara Gassmann, Cyril Tyrone Hübscher, Rafael Jörger, Alexandre-Takuya Kato, Rose Le Goff, Natascha Moschini, Camillo Paravicini and Noémie Vidonne

A vessel filled with images, voices and fragments of reality. Candles that gradually change shape as they burn. A corner that both marks a boundary within and awakens curiosity about what lies beyond. Everything is already in place, but a change of perspective is needed to set the metamorphosis in motion. What appears rigid begins to soften, to shift, to take on new forms. Dreams function like secret workshops, warping reality and converting it into scenes that can be both utopian and nightmarish. Some flee there to escape the harshness of waking life, others seek opportunities to rethink the world. In dream life, time is stretched, borders are blurred, and rigid structures crumble. What does it take to change perspective? Perhaps only a willingness to recognize the potential for transformation that lies between the real and oneiric—an invitation to uncover the unexpected in daily life and reshape reality.

FEAR – LESS – HOPE: Framing Time

Fear and hope are states deeply intertwined.
They arise in reflection on the past as much as in imagining a possible future. Both forces emerge simultaneously in the present. They shape our perception, guide our decisions, and give rise to narratives. The present thus becomes a space where fear and hope are at once visible and negotiable.

Through video, film, and participatory practices, Vahram Aghasyan, Greta Harutyunyan, Anas Kahal and Johannes Weilandt examine how fear and hope interconnect and move across time, borders, and both collective and personal experiences. Nearness and distance, memory and expectation, rupture and renewal constantly overlap. The weight of history remains as present as the possibility of another future.

‚FEAR – LESS – HOPE: Framing Time‘ is a German-Armenian exhibition project curated by Katharina Grün , Eva Khachatryan independent curator and Margarita Augustin . It brings together artists, cultural practitioners, and institutions from Germany and Armenia, creating a space for dialogue and collaboration. In March 2026, the exhibition will travel to the HayArt Centre in Yerevan.

Our relationship to our personal and collective experiences swings like a pendulum between fear and hope. This dynamic rarely rests — fear and hope coexist, often in tension, yet together they shape how we respond to the world, relate to it, and act within it. They form the foundation of our emotional reality, influence our decisions, and shape the stories we tell about ourselves and others.

We seek artists and cultural practitioners based in and/or from Germany and Armenia who engage with themes of fear and hope — whether through autobiographical or collective narratives, socio-political or philosophical reflections, or aesthetic and experimental approaches.

„D.O.O.M. - Didn’t Organize Only Moved“
Julian Arayapong & Eunji Song mit Textbeiträgen von Olga Hohmann

Julian Arayapong und Eunji Song (AdBK München) untersuchen die Spannung zwischen Ordnung und Chaos. „D.O.O.M.“ verweist auf das Schicksal, das apokalyptische Gefühl eines bevorstehenden Endes – und zugleich auf das Potenzial, in der Krise neue Ordnungen zu finden. Zwischen Hikikomori-Isolation und dem digital vernetzten „Doomer“-Diskurs sucht die Ausstellung nach Momenten des Übergangs, in denen sich aus kreativem Chaos eine neue Perspektive entfalten kann.

In the upcoming exhibition, Julian Arayapong and Eunji Song (AdBK München) explore the tension between order and chaos.“DOOM“ refers to fate, the apocalyptic sense of an impending end – and at the same time, to the potential of finding new orders within the crisis. Between Hikikomori isolation and the digitally networked „Doomer“ discourse, the exhibition seeks moments of transition, where a new perspective can emerge from creative chaos.
