Stell Dir vor, Du betrittst einen Raum aus unzähligen Wasserpartikeln, die auf Dich und Deine Anwesenheit reagieren. Das durften wir in der teamLab Borderless Ausstellung in Tokio bereits erleben.
Der Wasserfall verändert sich ständig. Er wird durch den Felsen, die Menschen im Raum, sowie andere Kunstwerke beeinflusst. Das Bild, das sich in diesem Moment bietet, wird nie wieder zu sehen sein.
Es wird simuliert, wie Wasser auf den Felsen fällt. Das Wasser wird durch kontinuierliches Fließen unzähliger Wasserpartikel dargestellt, deren Bewegung berechnet werden. Entsprechend der Bewegung der Wasserpartikel entstehen Linien im Raum. Da die Linien anschließend abgeflacht werden, ist der Blickwinkel einer Person – anders als bei Bildern, die durch Perspektive abgeflacht werden – nicht festgelegt. Die Wände und der Boden, auf denen der Wasserfall dargestellt ist, werden nicht zu einer Grenze zwischen den Menschen und dem Werk, und das Kunstwerks geht nahtlos in den Raum über.

Imagine walking into a room of countless water particles, reacting to your presence. We had the chance to experience this at the teamLab Borderless exhibition in Tokyo.
The waterfall continues to transform, influenced by the presence of the rock and the people within the space, along with the artworks that enter the space. The flow of water itself also influences the artworks that enter the space. The picture at this moment can never be seen again.
The Rock where People Gather was created by reproducing the artwork in a three-dimensional space. Water was then simulated to fall onto the rock, to depict the movement of water on the rock’s surface. The water is represented by a continuum of countless water particles, and the trajectories of the particles are then calculated. Lines are drawn in the space according to the movement of the water particles. Because the lines are then flattened using what teamLab calls Ultrasubjective Space, unlike images that are flattened by lenses and perspective, a person’s viewpoint is not fixed and their body is free to move. The walls and floor on which the waterfall is depicted do not become a boundary between people and the work.
