As part of the Kunstverein in Hamburg’s summer party, we are happy to announce that artist Mathias Toubro will be cooking dinner for us.
Dinner will be ready after the opening speeches at 7:30 pm. A warm bowl of summer minestrone with chickpeas and vegetables will be served with a parsley pesto on the side.

Im Rahmen der Eröffnung von Nandi Loafs Ausstellung Zirkus und des Sommerfests des Kunstverein in Hamburg, kocht der Künstler Mathias Toubro für uns ein Abendessen.
Das Essen beginnt nach den Eröffnungsreden um 19:30 Uhr. Es wird eine sommerliche Minestrone mit Kichererbsen und Gemüse, mit Petersilien-Pesto serviert.

Pina issue #2 Magazine Release
with lecture performance by Forensic Architecture
and interventions by Pina’s founder and editor-curator Catalina Imizcoz
Saturday, June 20, at 3 pm

The Kunstverein in Hamburg warmly invites to a lecture performance by Forensic Architecture on their exhibition 'A Counter-Archive of the Ovaherero and Nama Genocide' featured in Pina issue #2, accompanied by interventions from Pina’s founder and editor-curator Catalina Imizcoz.

Drawing on extensive archival research and spatial analysis undertaken over a multiyear collaboration with Nama and Ovaherero traditional authorities, the exhibition within the magazine traces the lasting impact of colonial violence.
Forensic Architecture will do a lecture performance on the complexities of this multi-phased investigation, share insight into their working methodologies, and expand on the central role that oral testimonies of descendants of survivors of the genocide play in the reconstruction of histories that have been expressly downplayed and distorted by Western powers throughout the 20th century.

Der Kunstverein in Hamburg lädt herzlich zur Lecture Performance von Forensic Architecture zu ihrer in Pina Ausgabe #2 vorgestellten Ausstellung A Counter-Archive of the Ovaherero and Nama Genocide, begleitet von Interventionen der Pina-Gründerin, Herausgeberin und Kuratorin Catalina Imizcoz.

Ausgehend von umfangreicher Archivrecherche und räumlicher Analyse, die im Rahmen einer mehrjährigen Zusammenarbeit mit traditionellen Autoritäten der Nama und Ovaherero unternommen wurden, zeichnet die im Magazin präsentierte Ausstellung die fortdauernden Auswirkungen kolonialer Gewalt nach.

Forensic Architecture präsentieren eine Lecture-Performance zu den Komplexitäten dieser mehrphasigen Untersuchung, geben Einblick in ihre Arbeitsmethoden und erläutern die zentrale Rolle, die mündliche Zeugnisse von Nachfahr:innen der Überlebenden des Genozids bei der Rekonstruktion von Geschichten spielen, die von westlichen Mächten im Verlauf des 20. Jahrhunderts gezielt heruntergespielt und verzerrt wurden.

Nandi Loaf: Zirkus

The Kunstverein in Hamburg cordially invites to the opening of Zirkus by Nandi Loaf on June 27, from 4 pm onwards at the Hanne Darboven Stiftung. Infiltrating the historic villa as emulated malware, Loaf stages an immersive crepuscular happening — part performance, part social choreography, part staged seduction. For one evening, guests are invited into a shifting environment of image, movement, sound, an encounter that shrouds the signals of Darboven’s programmed afterlife on the grounds where she lived and worked, and where Loaf has been in residence since February.
The exhibition will remain on view until May 27, 2027, by appointment.
The Kunstverein and the Hanne Darboven Stiftung will be hosting a summer party at the Hanne Darboven Foundation in conjunction with Loaf’s opening with a dinner by the artist Mathias Toubro, and a party hosted by aka studios.

Der Kunstverein in Hamburg und die Hanne Darboven Stiftung laden zur Eröffnung der Ausstellung Zirkus von Nandi Loaf am Samstag, den 27. Juni, ab 16 Uhr in die Hanne Darboven Stiftung ein. Wie eine emulierte Malware infiltriert Loaf die historische Villa und führt ein immersives, dämmerndes Ereignis auf – teils Performance, teils soziale Choreografie, teils inszenierte Verführung. Für einen Abend sind Gäste in eine sich wandelnde Umgebung aus Bild, Bewegung, Klang und Begegnung eingeladen, welche die Signale von Darbovens fortwirkender Präsenz an jenem Ort verschleiert, an dem die Künstlerin lebte und arbeitete – und an dem Loaf seit Februar Artist-in-Residence ist.
Die Ausstellung ist bis zum 27. Mai 2027 zu sehen. Besichtigung nach Vereinbarung.
Zum Anlass der Eröffnung laden der Kunstverein und die Hanne Darboven Stiftung zum Sommerfest in der Hanne Darboven Stiftung ein.

We warmly invite the members of the Kunstverein to join us on a trip with Hamburg’s City Curator, Joanna Warsza, to the Hamburg Planetarium, where the exhibition Bildersammlung zur Geschichte von Sternglaube und Sternkunde is on view in the Kesselsaal.
The exhibition traces its origins back to a project by the Hamburg art historian Aby Warburg. For the opening of the Planetarium in 1930, Warburg designed an educational collection of images on the history of astrology, astronomy, mythology, and scientific astronomy.
The exhibition is accompanied by contemporary art works, which are presented in the Kesselsaal and distributed throughout the city park.
Joanna Warsza will guide us through the exhibition and join us in conversation. Since October 2024, Warsza has been working as City Curator at the intersection of art in public spaces, political discourse and social alliance-building.

Herzlich laden wir die Mitglieder des Kunstvereins zu einem gemeinsamen Ausflug mit der Stadtkuratorin Hamburg Joanna Warsza ins Planetarium Hamburg ein, wo die Ausstellung Bildersammlung zur Geschichte von Sternglaube und Sternkunde im Kesselsaal gezeigt wird.
Die Ausstellung geht auf ein Projekt des Hamburger Kunsthistorikers Aby Warburg zurück. Zur Eröffnung des Planetariums im Jahr 1930 hatte Warburg eine didaktisch angelegte Bildersammlung zur Geschichte von Astrologie, Astronomie, Mythologie und wissenschaftlicher Sternkunde entworfen.
Begleitet wird die Ausstellung durch zeitgenössische künstlerische Positionen, die im Kesselsaal präsentiert und über den Stadtpark verteilt sind.
Joanna Warsza führt durch die Ausstellung und kommt mit uns ins Gespräch. Seit Oktober 2024 arbeitet Warsza als Stadtkuratorin an der Schnittstelle von Kunst im öffentlichen Raum, politischer Öffentlichkeit und gesellschaftlicher Allianzbildung.

The Project Space-in-Residence chess club and the Kunstverein in Hamburg cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition I feel it all on Thursday, 4 June, at 7 pm.
The photographic image serves as a point of departure towards various visual pathways and artistic methods. Addressing forms such as fashion photography as well as archival materials, the assumed veracity of photography splits into layers of fantasy, where memory is indistinguishable from desire, and absence morphs into emotional proximity.

The group show features works by Josef Bauer, Tim Hardy, Angelique Heidler, Martin Laborde, Luna Mahoux, Marietta Mavrokordatou, Troy Montez Mitchie, Nicolai Olesen and Jasia Rabiej, and Désirée Nakouzi De Monte and Andrea Parenti of Collezione Nancy Delroi with Matt Gess.

Der Project Space-in-Residence chess club und der Kunstverein in Hamburg laden herzlich zur Eröffnung der Ausstellung I feel it all am Donnerstag, den 04. Juni, um 19 Uhr ein.
Das fotografische Bild dient als Ausgangspunkt für vielfältige visuelle Strategien und künstlerische Ansätze. Zwischen Modefotografie und Archivmaterial beginnt die vermeintliche Wahrhaftigkeit der Fotografie zu bröckeln und sich in Schichten situierter Fantasien zu entfalten. In diesem Spannungsfeld werden Erinnerung und Begehren ununterscheidbar, während Abwesenheit sich in eine Form emotionaler Nähe verwandelt.

The Kunstverein in Hamburg cordially invites to the opening of the exhibition Sample Question by Nina Porter on Thursday, June 4, at 7 pm. Sample Question marks the first institutional solo presentation of Porter and comprises new works commissioned by the Kunstverein in Hamburg on the occasion of the 9th Triennial of Photography Hamburg: Alliance, Infinity, Love - in the Face of the Other, to be held in the downstairs gallery of the Kunstverein. Porter’s recent work reconstitutes the dynamic between camera, subject, and image, diffusing emphasis throughout their network. Alongside a series of photographic prints, the work has distinctly sculptural features, although it is orientated neither toward outcome nor process, but instead toward observations of evanescent phenomena – the gaps between seeing and perceiving, for instance. The material components of Porter’s practice behave like elements of an exchange that channel toward an intangible space, at once indexing time and accentuating the volume of a moment and all it has the potential to contain.

Der Kunstverein in Hamburg lädt zur Eröffnung der Ausstellung Sample Question von Nina Porter am Donnerstag, den 4. Juni, um 19 Uhr ein. Sample Question ist die erste institutionelle Einzelausstellung von Nina Porter und umfasst neue Werke, die vom Kunstverein anlässlich der 9. Triennale der Photographie in Auftrag gegeben wurden. Die jüngsten Arbeiten der Künstlerin rekonstruieren das Beziehungsgeflecht von Kamera, Motiv und Bild und verteilen die Schwerpunkte über deren gesamtes Netzwerk. Neben einer Reihe von Fotografien weist das Werk skulpturale Merkmale auf, auch wenn die Arbeiten weder auf ein Ergebnis noch einen Prozess ausgerichtet sind, sondern vielmehr auf die Beobachtung flüchtiger Phänomene, beispielsweise die Lücken zwischen Sehen und Wahrnehmen. Die materiellen Komponenten von Porters Praxis verhalten sich wie Elemente eines Austauschs, die sich auf einen immateriellen Raum zubewegen, indem sie zugleich Zeit indizieren und die Fülle eines Augenblicks hervorheben und all das, was er potenziell enthalten kann.

Embedded within even the most basic household item is an emotional charge that binds it to the lives of those who use it, far exceeding the function of the object itself. Habit, trauma, fantasy, desire, or memory lodge themselves into our belongings, and the cold surfaces of a toaster or a cutting board transform, become abstract, and fossilise over time, from possessions into something else. The less directly useful an object slowly becomes, the more it accumulates meaning, specificity, and identity—and a broken chair can sometimes mean and matter more than a new one.

Auch in dem unscheinbarsten Haushaltsgegenstand ist eine emotionale Aufladung eingeschrieben, die ihn an das Leben jener bindet, die ihn gebrauchen. Diese Bindung reicht über die Funktion des Objekts hinaus: Gewohnheit, Trauma, Fantasie, Begehren oder Erinnerung lagern sich ab, und die kalten Oberflächen eines Toasters oder eines Schneidebretts verwandeln sich, werden abstrakt und fossilisieren mit der Zeit, vom bloßen Besitz zu etwas Anderem. Durch den Verlust seiner Nützlichkeit besteht das Potenzial einer Akkumulation von Bedeutung, Spezifität und Wesen – ein kaputter Stuhl kann mehr bedeuten als ein neuer.
