Renn- und Sportwagen vor allem aus den 1950er/1960er Jahren, darunter einzigartige Prototypen, entführen Sie in eine Zeit voll packender Rennen, waghalsiger Rennfahrer und genialer Konstrukteure. Tauchen Sie ein in eine Welt von Benzin und Adrenalin. Multimedial präsentiert zeigen Filme die Fahrzeuge in Aktion, in einer begehbaren Audiobox dröhnen die Motoren, und in unserem Fahrsimulator – einem echten Porsche 356 Cabrio – können Sie sich selbst auf der Suche nach der Ideallinie hinters Steuer setzen. Entdecken Sie auf drei weitläufigen Etagen eines historischen Fabrikgebäudes die Faszination Automobil, angefangen von unserer Dauerausstellung über Sonderausstellungen bis hin zur Galerie und dem Museumscafé Erlkönig, das zu einem Boxenstopp einlädt.

PROTOTYP Throwback Thursday: A very different interpretation of the Citroën 2CV at the 1956 Paris Motor Show 🤍 (In the picture, we wrote 1957 due to incorrect labeling)

The Dagonet Coupé demonstrated just how radically Citroën’s utilitarian car could be transformed. Moving away from the familiar silhouette of the production 2CV, this special-bodied version introduced a much sportier character, combining French ingenuity with the elegance and individuality of a bespoke automobile.

The project was associated with Jean Dagonet, the French specialist renowned for developing lightweight, performance-oriented 2CVs. His approach went far beyond cosmetic modifications: weight reduction, aerodynamic improvements and engine tuning were central to his philosophy of extracting more performance from Citroën’s unconventional air-cooled flat-twin platform.

The Coupé is particularly fascinating because it challenged the very purpose of the original 2CV. Conceived as an affordable, practical car for everyday life, the Citroën became the basis for a much more exclusive and sporting creation.

Under the lights of the 1953 Paris Motor Show, the Porsche 550 Spyder made its world debut — a tiny sports car with an enormous heart and a racing spirit that would soon capture the imagination of enthusiasts around the world.

Light, purposeful and beautifully uncompromising, the 550 Spyder was more than a car. It was the beginning of a legend.

More than seven decades later, its silhouette still makes the heart beat a little faster. 🏁✨

Lightweight, elegant and beautifully simple - the Porsche 356 Gmünd Coupe was more than a sports car. It was the beginning of a dream.

Decades later, standing alone on the runway, its timeless shape still tells the same story: the freedom to go somewhere new, to push a little further, to dream a little bigger... 🩶

PROTOTYP Throwback Thursday: A touch of American-inspired style on the European rally scene.

Walter Hampel and Horst Koblischek beside their Porsche 356 at the 1952 Liège-Rome-Liège Rally — rolled-up jeans, open collars and jackets giving the pair an unmistakably relaxed, almost rebellious elegance.

Sadly, their stylish appearance proved more successful than their rally result: the Porsche did not make it to the finish.

Still, some images outlast the results — and this one captures the spirit of the early 1950s beautifully.

First presented at the IAA in Frankfurt in September 1965, the Fuchs wheel was introduced on the Porsche 911 S in 1966.

Designed to reduce unsprung weight while combining strength and lightweight construction, the Fuchs wheel quickly became one of the most recognizable elements of Porsche design.

From the 911 to the 914/6 — six decades later, the iconic five-spoke design still looks right at home.
