MISSION
Through partnerships with American and international institutions, Atelierhaus Hilmsen Germany supports the education and professional development of artists and scholars from around the world with an emphasis in the Arts and Humanities. Residents come together to create and research in complete freedom, unmediated by external distractions. Atelierhaus Hilmsen selects artists and scholars of varying disciplines regardless of age, sex or nationality to experience an unforgettable place instilled with creativity and mystery. Through an alchemy of diversity, spacious studios and the wondrous environment of Hilmsen, the Atelierhaus becomes a channel for deeper understanding across cultures and perspectives as well as a catalyst for spontaneous collaborative projects. ABOUT

In 1993, artist Hans Molzberger acquired 15,000 square meters of land in Hilmsen, Germany which included a Gothic farmhouse built in 1906 along with several dilapidated barns to create large-scale sculpture. Molzberger began making minor modifications and additions to the farm and facilities so the environment would be more con- ducive for studio artwork. Soon the vast space became a place to host friends and fellow artists to collaborate, create their own work, and research. This led to the founding of Atelierhaus Hilmsen (meaning “studio house” in English), a professional arts and humanities residency and non-profit organization. Hilmsen is a small hamlet located 10 miles outside of the medieval town of Salzwedel in the former territory of the German Democratic Republic (population 25,000). Culturally rich with a charming aesthetic, modern amenities, and a fascinating history. Salzwedel is a place of interest for many travelers along the historical “Romanesque Road” and the Transromanica network that links Romanesque Architecture, village churches, monasteries, cathedrals and castles built between 950 and 1250.

🛠️ New Addition to The Atelierhaus! 🪚
We’re thrilled to announce the newest upgrade to our workshop: a SawStop Table Saw!
This top-of-the-line saw is known for its industry-leading safety features—it can stop the blade in milliseconds upon contact with skin. That means a safer workspace for everyone.
But it’s not just about safety—it’s also a precision tool that delivers clean, accurate cuts for all your woodworking projects.
We're always working to make The Atelierhaus a top-tier creative space, and this is one more step in that direction.
We are very happy about the upgrade.
