What a blast – thank you all for joining the opening of our new exhibition on Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa last night!

The show is now on until 28 February 2027 – looking forward to welcoming everyone.

An exhibition by the Vitra Design Museum, M+, Museum of Visual Culture, and the Wüstenrot Stiftung, in collaboration with the Geoffrey Bawa Trust.

Today, on the International Day of Democracy, we celebrate the power of dialogue and the importance of keeping spaces for it open.

Democracy begins with listening. To different perspectives, different experiences, different ideas. Design, at its best, creates the conditions for these encounters. It invites participation, exchange, and collective imagination.
We celebrate the values of openness, dialogue, and participation. At the Vitra Design Museum, we aim to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and conversations across different perspectives through all aspects of our work.

Join us for a talk with Ingrid Moye, Christoph Zeller, Nina Kirste and Josef Grillmeier exploring Casa Majahua, Luis Barragán’s little-known holiday house on Mexico’s Pacific coast. Left to the forces of nature after only a brief period of use, the building today raises important questions about preservation, repair, and sustainable reactivation.

Through archival materials, surveys, and research conducted as part of the Architectural Association Summer School Programme, the speakers trace the story of this remarkable project and reflect on how architectural heritage can be documented and reimagined in the face of decay.

For more than two decades, Hella Jongerius has worked with the , bringing a contemporary perspective to centuries-old craftsmanship. Her designs celebrate the hand-made, embrace irregularity, and reveal new possibilities within one of Europe’s oldest porcelain traditions.

The collaboration is a dialogue between innovation and tradition. Working closely with the manufactory’s artisans, Jongerius reinterprets historic forms, archival motifs, and hand-painting techniques, creating objects that feel both timeless and distinctly contemporary.
