We warmly invite you to the opening of

A Leg and a Wing to Save the King
a solo exhibition by Daniel van der Noon

‘Exploring themes from his childhood, Daniel invites us to a world of memories and nostalgia in his paintings and texts.

‘’A Leg and a Wing to Save the King’

a one,
a two,
and a jolly good three.

Phrases from childhood remain with strange certainty even when their origins have disappeared. I remember the rhythm of the song and being swung into the air, each hand held by one of my parents: a LEG and a WING…

As a child you imagine that you will somehow grow up inside the same world. The houses, décor, ornaments, shops, cars, gardens, voices and Sunday afternoons seem as though they will remain where you left them. Everything seems as permanent as the chest of drawers in your bedroom, or the towel printed with a cream-coloured fluffy dog piloting an aeroplane of the Wright brothers’.

This series of paintings, developed from drawings, begins with such fragments - an attempt to return to such passages of childhood in Birmingham: songs, rhymes, names, pets, football kits, plants and scraps of conversation that can return intact in one moment and become distorted in another. ‘

Daniel van der Noon

We look forward to seeing you!

Don´t miss the final days of ´soil is the earth´s skin´ a duo exhibition by María Kristín Antonsdóttir and Rigmor Fischer

‘Together, the works suggest that the personal and the collective are never entirely separate. The stories we inherit are entangled with the landscapes we inhabit. The materials we touch have travelled through histories w e rarely see.

The title, soil is the earth’s skin, imagines the earth as something living
- something that breathes, scars, heals and remembers. Like skin, soil is both a surface and a threshold. It carries traces of everything that has passed across it.’

The show will run until August 31st

Open everyday until 17:00

SARA FLINDT + Collage workshop

As part of our current exhibition ´soil is the earth´s skin´ we warmly invite you to a collage workshop and live performance by Sara Flindt , Friday - August 21st.

18:00 Collage workshop facilitated by María Kristín Antonsdóttir with old family photos found in ´storskrald´

19:00 Live performance by Sara Flindt

Sara welcomes you to the other side of the Gutenberg parenthesis. She’s been waiting there for you ever since she first understood what you didn’t mean.

Her artistic practice is because it’s imperfect. Her sound is best described as mutable. Some of it is made of songs. Some of it is already gone. She performs live, sometimes digitally and other times with her fingers, and also at www.saraflindt.com, [a virtual world] which in turn performs living. But that’s neither hear nor the air: [either way,] the goal is to make the textual textural, or altogether oral. Her improvised work is a dialogue with the present, which echoes the past, unless it’s the other way around: dyslexia makes a girl suspicious of structure. And without fixed grammatical rules, how can anything break the bond between us?

Without the weight of the words on her shoulder, this is expressed through her solo project as well as the duo slóra (IS/DK), and a collaborative project with Polish composer Szymon Wójcik. Recent releases include the albums when you rub your eyes, you see things you can’t describe and tearstobealone (slóra).

In August, she will release an EP in collaboration with author Cecilie Lind, who has made a remix of Sara’s lyrical fragments.

We look forward to seeing you!
