Situated in the heart of Copenhagen, O—Overgaden has for more than three decades been among the leading non-profit art institutions in Denmark with an irreverent program displaying both emerging local and international voices of contemporary art. The program comprehends around 8-10 grand-scale exhibitions a year as well as a breadth of artist talks, performances, film screenings, seminars, and dis

cussions. Established in 1986 and situated by a canal in one of central Copenhagen’s historic neighborhoods, O—Overgaden occupies two large floors of a 19th century building which used to house a printing workshop.

Please join us on Monday 31 August, 6-7.30pm at O—Overgaden for the event "RESTLESS WORK". The event includes a reading and talk by American poet and scholar, Jackie Wang, whose current writing explores movement, oceanic feeling, and watery dreams, followed by a dialogue on the restless museum and restless work, between curator Hendrik Folkerts and artist Cally Spooner, marking their shared research on liveness as a refusal to settle.

The talk is organized in collaboration with PASS—Center for Practice-based Art Studies, University of Copenhagen, and is part of the workshop, dialogue, and debate series RESTLESS WORK AND ARTISTIC TROUBLE, supported by The Danish Arts Council and running through autumn of 2026 at O—Overgaden.

Please join us tomorrow, 28 August, from 5–9pm, when we’ll celebrate the opening of the group exhibition “IN PROTEST AND IN CARE”

Ahead of the official opening at 5pm, we invite you to join us for a talk at 4pm, bringing participating artist Bernd Oppl together with scholars Georgiana Kleege and Mara Mills for a conversation on disability-as-method and how visual impairment can help shape both the making and experiencing of art.

The exhibition is curated by Anne Kølbæk Iversen as part of a research project affiliated with O—Overgaden and the University of Copenhagen.

The bar will be open and entry to O—Overgaden is as always free—we look forward to welcoming you!

~ LAST CHANCE to see coyote’s “Upstairs” ~

This weekend marks the final days of coyote’s exhibition “Upstairs” at O—Overgaden. If you haven’t stopped by yet—or want to see the show one more time—now is the moment!

The exhibition can be experienced in its entirety until Sunday 2 August at 1pm, when “Upstairs” will be deinstalled during O—Overgaden’s opening hours, in full view of visitors. This gesture makes visible the collective labor behind exhibition-making—work that usually takes place outside public opening hours. Everyone is welcome to lend a hand!

Entry to O—Overgaden is, as always, free.

Saturday, Sunday: 11am–6pm

~ NOW ON SHOW ~ coyote: “Upstairs”

“Upstairs” is open for one more week—through 2 August!

For the brand-new publication accompanying their exhibition, coyote interviewed six collaborators including curators Klara Li Scheutz & Sif Lindblad (All all all):
Here’s an excerpt from their conversation:

coyote:
“In terms of the future, what are your expectations for coyote?”

Klara Li Scheutz & Sif Lindblad:
“Great expectations. We see a grand future. We think we see an uncompromising future. You will influence how we organize ourselves in the art scene in general. We feel you already did that. You’ll take more and more space with that type of work. And this is not necessarily in a matter of size—but also that. That’s our expectation.”

The bilingual publication (DK/EN) is available in print at O—Overgaden’s bookshop (DKK50), while a free digital copy is available on our website.

Opening hours:
Tuesday, Wednesday: 1–6pm
Thursday: 1–8pm
Friday: 1–6pm
Saturday, Sunday: 11am–6pm

~ NOW ON SHOW ~ Morten Knudsen: “STICKY EYES (paintings, collages, drawings, and monuments)”

“STICKY EYES (paintings, collages, drawings, and monuments)” is open for one more week— through 2 August!

In the brand-new publication accompanying the exhibition, writer and curator Kristian Vistrup Madsen reflects on the authority of Knudsen’s paintings:

“Knudsen’s painting distinguishes itself from much new painting of his generation by maintaining elements of the self-reflexivity that has characterized the medium since the 1980s. We know that Knudsen’s paintings know that they are paintings because of the stark difference between an E and a spiral and the thick layers of oil and wax, these dense, clotted abstractions. The juxtaposition of different modalities of image-making points to the nature of the image itself, to the structures that support it: both literally, in the form of the canvas and the stretcher-bar, and in the expanded sense of painting’s history and what remains of its authority.”

The bilingual publication (DK/EN) is available in print at O—Overgaden’s bookshop (DKK50), while a free digital copy is available on our website.
