These works by , , , and share a powerful visual language while telling very different stories. Some speak of political resistance, censorship, and protest. Others explore empowerment, identity, and the strength of women’s voices. ✊🌹

Yet visually, they are connected by one simple element: a bandana, a piece of fabric that carries a much deeper meaning.

Across street art, the covered face has become more than a way to remain anonymous. It has become a symbol of resistance, courage, and freedom. A reminder that identity is deeply political, and that what we choose to reveal or conceal can itself be an act of power.

Sometimes, choosing to hide your face can be the most powerful way to be seen 📣

🎭 Some portraits reveal. Others conceal.

A glimpse inside No Feeling Is Final, volkerhermes solo exhibition, now on view at MACA Museum

In Volkerhermes’ Hidden Portraits, visages recede beneath cascades of silk, lace, ribbons, and ornament. Deprived of the portrait’s traditional focal point, the gaze begins to wander; towards the details that once signified lineage, status, taste, and belonging.

What emerges is not an absence of identity, but a reconsideration of how identity is constructed, performed, and perceived. Is the concealed face an invitation to look elsewhere?🪞

Across the exhibition, historical portraiture unfolds as something unexpectedly contemporary: a meditation on visibility, self-fashioning, and the enduring tension between what portrait can reveal and withhold.

This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Val, a weekly intern from European School Copenhagen who closely engaged and worked with us at MACA Museum ✨

Val explored the MACA collection to choose an artwork for posting. Here are Val’s insightful comments 💛

“Bansky’s “Toxic Mary”, exhibited in our museum, is one of our largest pieces, and makes a strong political stance. It’s immediately evocative of warfare and the use of religion as a weapon of war. It can feel both intimate and horrifying, the threat of death looming over an image of mother and child, something that often brings comfort. Could it suggest that ideologies passed down through generations can bring harm, and will not protect people when they need protection? What do you imagine the symbolism of the only colour being on the bottle and the dots overhead could mean?

Even though it was originally made in 2003 for “Turf War” in London, it still holds political relevance today, with more wars threatening children’s safety. Wars rely on people to turn to hysteria over reason.
The mother may not be able to see the poison she is giving to her child, Banksy could be stating here that we are all blind to the systems of violence we perpetuate through whatever beliefs we may have.”

What if the future of furniture isn’t handcrafted nostalgia, but intelligent production?

From 10–12 June, in occasion of MACA Museum presents the work of , a designer redefining how contemporary furniture is conceived and made.

Operating as a self described one man furniture factory, Rottier combines digital design, CNC fabrication, and a highly local production network to create furniture that is precise, adaptable, and built with minimal waste. His work challenges traditional ideas of craftsmanship and explores how technology can create more sustainable ways of producing for the way we live today.

On view will be pieces from the AR15 and other series, modular collections designed to evolve with changing spaces and needs. Made from recyclable aluminum and engineered for longevity, the works embody a vision of design that is flexible, repairable, and rooted in the realities of contemporary living.

Rather than looking back, Rottier’s practice looks forward, proving that innovation, efficiency, and sustainability can coexist without compromise.

The Unveiling: Volker Hermes | No Feeling Is Final
MACA Museum is thrilled to unveil our new exhibition: .hermes, ‘’No Feeling Is Final’’.

🗓️ 28 April 2026 – 24 January 2027. (The exhibition can be experienced with a regular museum ticket).

In Volker’s world, historical opulence meets scrupulous contemporary intervention. No Feeling Is Final explores the latest in Volker Hermes’ series of “Hidden Portrait” works, where the artist digitally alters historical portraits by concealing the sitter’s face using elements from the original paintings. This subtle yet striking gesture draws attention to details such as costume, interior spaces, and ornament; features that once played a central role in expressing identity, social status, and power.

The exhibition is an exploration of how identity is constructed and interpreted in a culture often dominated by facial likeness alone. By shifting the focus away from the visage, Hermes invites viewers to reconsider the continuing relevance of portraiture today.
