On September 27, we commemorate the deciphering of the Rosetta Stone and the Birth of Egyptology —a day that transformed the language of history. It marks the moment the archaeologist Champollion successfully deciphered the famous stone, ushering in a new historical era, founding the field of Egyptology, and unlocking the secrets of Egyptian civilization,The Rosetta Stone was discovered on July 15, 1799, during the French campaign in Egypt. It bears an inscription in three scripts: Hieroglyphic, Demotic, and Ancient Greek. By leveraging his knowledge of Ancient Greek and comparing it with the other scripts, Champollion succeeded in deciphering the text and unlocking the secrets of the Ancient Egyptian language.
