Que reste-t-il de nos souvenirs lorsque nous changeons d’environnement ?
Dans cette vidéo, l’artiste japonais Shimabuku rend visite à des singes japonais installés dans un sanctuaire animalier dans le désert texan, loin des montagnes enneigées de leur habitat d’origine à Kyoto. En déposant une montagne de glace pilée devant eux, il observe avec humour, poésie et tendresse leurs réactions face à cette matière familière.
À travers cette expérience simple et fascinante, l’artiste nous invite à réfléchir à la mémoire, à l’adaptation des êtres vivants à leur environnement et aux liens qui unissent humains et animaux.

What remains of our memories when we move to a new environment?
In this video, Japanese artist Shimabuku visits Japanese monkeys living in an animal sanctuary in the Texan desert, far from the snowy mountains of their native habitat in Kyoto. By placing a mound of crushed ice among them, he observes with humour, poetry and tenderness how they react to this familiar material.
Through this simple yet fascinating experiment, the artist invites us to reflect on memory, the ways living beings adapt to their environment, and the bonds that connect humans and animals.
