This painting depicts the creation events at the rock hole site of west of Karrku W.A which Maureen has inherited from her Grandfather Frank Ward Tjupurrula. The arc design literally represents a symbolic map of the Western Desert region and each section depicts ancestral activities that were part of the formation of the present day environment including ‘Tali Tali’ (sand hills) and ‘Kapi’ (clay pans) shown by the inner spiral.
This painting is a classic Tingari design that emits a powerful shimmer effect with the monochromatic colour selection combined with the spontaneity and energy of the artist.
Maureen has also inherited her designs from her mother Lorna Ward Napanangka and her Grandfather from her mothers side the late Timmy Payunka Tjapangati, both of whom are significant Pintupi painters from the Papunya school of artists.

The Bush Turkey Story or Bush Turkey Dreaming is a significant cultural narrative for the Anmatyerre people of the Utopia region in Central Australia, often depicted in Aboriginal art, such as in the works of artists like Cowboy Loy Pwerle and Abie Loy Kemarre. Below is a description of the story based on available information, particularly from the context of Aboriginal cultural narratives and art:
The Bush Turkey Story is rooted in the Dreamtime, the Aboriginal spiritual framework that explains the origins of the land, animals, and cultural practices. The bush turkey, known as arwengerrp in the Anmatyerre language (referring to the Australian bustard, Ardeotis australis, also called bush turkey in Central Australia), is a central figure in this narrative. The story is tied to the landscape of Ahalpere, near the Sandover River in Utopia, where the bush turkey is a totem animal for some Anmatyerre people.
In the narrative, the bush turkey is depicted as a creature that inhabits tall, thick grassy areas or creek beds, foraging for seeds and small fruits, such as the akatyerre (a small, nutritious fruit). The story describes the turkey’s daily journey through its environment, moving from its nesting areas near creek beds to foraging grounds. In artistic representations, such as those by Abie Loy Kamarre, specific symbols convey elements of the story:

Concentric circles represent the turkey’s home or nesting site by a creek.

Strong diagonal lines symbolize the turkey’s journey to collect food.

Semicircle patterns depict the tall grasses where the turkey hides while foraging.

Dots represent the seeds and fruits it seeks.

The story also connects the bush turkey to hunting practices, as the bird was once an abundant food source for the Utopia people. Hunting the turkey often led to finding akatyerre fruit, linking the two in song and story. This narrative reflects the deep connection between the Anmatyerre people, their environment, and the animals that sustain them, emphasizing survival, movement, and the cyclical nature of life in the desert.
